Having had 3 scoobies in a row over the last 4 years, I have been a complete traitor and bought a BMW 325I Sport 01 model. I used to love scoobies but I have to admit that (flame suit on)I really do not miss the scooby one bit. Maybe Im getting old but my reasons are as follows:
1. Blend into traffic instead of being the centre of attention.
2. Boy racers ignore you...
3. Quality all been said before but its true.
4. Responsiveness - no more throwing it down 2 gears to move anywhere.
5. Women look at you as though you are respectable not a hooligan!

Only complaint is it's not an M3....

Number 2 was highly relevant to me getting rid of my Scoob. I don't miss mine either (except it had a bigger boot and more doors than my new Civic, which would have been useful on a recent family holiday).

I know what youre saying, but what difference does it make if boy racers dont ignore you?
All they do is rag their modded heaps of ****e off the lights.
Just let them get on with it - I do

'1. Blend into traffic instead of being the centre of attention.'

Well having a car as common as muck, that's not difficult.

Yes George you are getting old ( me too !)

I`ve found that BM quality is not all it`s cracked up to be. Two Subaru`s to date and although they may not `look` quality they`ve been in my drive not the dealer`s garage.

Having traded from a Lexus to a Scoob I can honestly say the opposite: I don't miss the quality one bit. I don't even notice my interior when I'm driving, you don't look at the mantlepeice while your stoking the fire

Scoobs unresponsive? They may be a bit laggy at times, but it's usually worth the wait

I'm happy for you that you like your BMW, but personally, you'd never, ever get me in one. Well, maybe an M3 or M5, but not any other.

Please don't take this personally.

But BMWs are simply dull, dull, DULL !!

Yes, I know they are great cars, and built with quality.

But IMO they are just a status symbol for young execs - esp. the 3 series! If I didn't have the scoob, for the same money as a beamer (and with similar spec) I would have bought an Alfa (or even a Lexus) - cars with much more personality.

Once again, no offence :0)

Loving my STi so far.
It's bizarre, i have gone from a Sport to an STi5 and people are actually talking to me now. LOL
I have been going to the same buttie shop for a year, parking in the same spot, the first day i took the STi i couldnt shut the shop staff up, they loved it. Only diference is a bonnet scoop and paint colour really.
I instantly noticed other drivers treat you diferently too, some move out of the way as you aproach, others sit right up your ****, god knows why?
I am getting a lot of gawps as i drive to work too.

I dont care what other people think, never have done when it comes to car choice, i just find it highly amusing how people react diferently depending on what car you are sat in. All very odd.

I would never have a BMW, not after the way they tried to destroy Rover. They are well over rated too.

I think it's an age thing. If I get a scooby I want all the attention (not from coppers or thieves though) and would be happy for boy racers to try it on every now and again - it's up to me whether I race back or not. I suspect I'll grow beyond this stage in a few years but I intend to enjoy it while it's here

It is an age thing Saxo boy is right, after a while you just arent interested in all that hubris and need something a little more refined, subtle and age-appropriate. Until you get to that maturity you will never understand it. After all, I was convinced at 14 that I'd never stop being a punk....

How odd!

1.I don't notice if people are looking at me because I don't look at them, so I get the impression that no one is interested.

2.As for boy racers, in the 3 years I've owned scoobs I've not been hounded at all by them.

3.Quality, well all cars rattle but some hide it better.

4.Responsiveness is nice but only if the power can then build into something interesting instead of fading away.

5.Women think I'm a god what ever i'm driving.

As for you John Felstead, if I see you mention one more time about that new car of yours I'll be mildly irritated

BTW I believe that other drivers react to the way that you drive and not the other way around. So if you are driving assertively then they will too. You will not be bothered if you are driving passively. Lesson over

eh don't mind the annoying racers....
your name is the work of the devil....
and woman don't like the car give them a ride in it and showem what it can do then they tend to have a little more respect for it or they just slap you for driving to fast....

and as for the lag....don't have that in my 2001 2.5 rs =)

kinda of funny I went the other way, when i was younger couldnt afford fast cars just had cheap basic saloons cortinas etc, then got married, kids the usual route estate cars. As I got older started buying better cars ended up with a 2.5 bm alpina, sold it last year and got a uk my95. my wife now calls me an essex hooligan and that im going through a mid life crisis I dont care the sheer fun i get from driving it leaves all the other cars ive had over the years as also rans. It is a case of buy what you enjoy driving whatever make or model, and who cares what anybody else thinks

I've never chosen a car for it's image.

It's more it's ability to corner that interests me

Got mine because IMHO a 3 year old 5 door is unbeatable for practicality and performance.

I went the German route (Audi) which was fantastic build, quality and refinement but limited fun.

When I get fed up I'll probably get a PPPd WRX or STi in a couple of years - better refinement etc.

I've had 3 like George. I don't really MISS any of them (especially the Bugeye), but would certainly buy another, probably an MY99 or 00, or WRX RA. Maybe in another 15 years when I start to get a midlife crisis and look at reliving my youth again.

In any case I still scratch the itch and drive the Old Boy's MY2001 now and again. Every time I drive it, it makes my good old 205GTi feel all the more special.

Floyd, try driving along the A45 past Coventry on a Friday evening. I don't know what it is about Cov, but everyone there wants to try it on with a Scoob, and if you don't get away from them they continue to hassle you. It's irksome.

Well, if you count following the car in front at a safe distance and having various toerags accelerate up my **** for no aparant reason, my driving style, you've got me Floyd.

It really is bizarre how people drive diferently now i am in the STi (sorry Floyd ). Even on the test drive i had a nutter in a 300ZX try to race me from some lights, very odd behaviour indeed.

No offence John Felstead, the driving style wasn't aimed at you
There is always the exception to the rule but I haven't experience it yet.

Does anyone react to the boy racer who tail gates and if so, what so you do?
