agreed, I have also suspected for some time now that late 90's and 00's jap stuff will be the new Ford. I'm in my mid 30's and as a teen it was the cozzy's and RS's that everyone wanted. A few years later everyone was Scoobynet/Evo/Supra turbo etc crazy! This lot are now old enough (and helped by cheap loans) to consider a "toy" car.
i also notice now that dozens of quite nice imprezas are getting broken as part prices are higher than whole cars. This exact thing happened with the Cozzys. Now there aren't that many left, certainly not enough to supply demand. So the prices have gone up.
just my probably worthless opinion.

I'm one of the 'I've just bought an old Scooby for silly money' people ..

For me, I wanted to get out of the PCP/finance game. I've had a 987.2, 2 S3's, a 335i etc. and the issue for me is that they're now all so characterless and sanitized.

My buddy has just bought an S3, had it Stage 2 revo and it's an absolute weapon in a straight line. It would demolish my STi no doubt. He's so pleased with himself and is still wondering why I didn't just do the same when I had my S3

The problem (for me) is the S3 was boring. More speed wouldn't have changed it. Woop woop he can activate launch control, mash the accelerator and do 0-100 in about 9 seconds. Do you know what his interaction is? He holds on - that's it

I suspect 99% of the time, he sticks the car in D and potters around while the box changes up at 1,900 revs. He may as well be in the 1.6

My STi is noisy, hard riding, tells you off if you don't change gear properly or are in the right gear for the speed you're doing, won't change down for you, won't do a hill start for you, and isn't a boring flat linear torque curve .. and this all puts a HUGE smile on my face

I can see the attraction in buying an old Scoob or Evo or something less sanitized. However finding an old umodified, low mileage, well cared for car is now not that easy and hence prices are climbing .. my advice, get one while you can

i agree with this also! But I think it's also an age thing, the current Cozzy or E30M3 boys would say our scoobys are fast but too easy and quiet compared. As would the mk1/2 escort boys say the cozzy saff if a Nancy car because it has leather seats and sound deadening.
in a few years time my son (now 6) will come home in a 17 plate S3 and try to convince me it's "real" driving as it uses Petrol and doesn't even drive itself! I will obviously argue with him

Not a widetrack, but a clean example, 55000 miles, PPP, fsh, wheels refurbed and brand new tyres 500 miles ago, new brembo pads this week.

Hasn't been fiddled with, exhaust changed to cobra stainless with sports cat, deceptor pro BoV, short shift kit and hella horns are the only mods.
