Hi all and thanks for letting me join.
Year ago I had a 2004 WRX SL Saloon, unfortunately children and the need for a bigger car meant I only had a years pleasure in it, but despite owning a ML500, Saab 9-5 Aero and BWM 330D Sport, I never forgot the fun I had in the scoob. Anyways, a few weeks ago I found out that a friend of a friend needed some space on his drive and was willing (very reluctantly) to part with his 2001 WRX wagon, it is a very clean car and only slightly modified (cold air induction kit and aftermarket BOV), it has only done 72k with full service and only done 3k in the last 2 years. I managed to get this car for what I though was a steal, £1,750.00. Since purchasing the car I have had the ECU remapped to what they state 258bhp, the trouble is, I am noticing no difference, if anything, I am getting a slight hesitation when going into second gear whilst hard driving, it only happens into second, and only when wellying it. My questions to the allknowing are such:
Should I notice a perceived difference in performance?
Is the second gear thing a software or component issue (the guy who carried out the remap said it sounds like a hose/vacuum issue as it only happens when going into second)(also only had the remap carried out last week and he did say to give the car 500miles to "bed in"?)
How can I check?
And lastly, does anyone know of an exhaust system up for sale? (I did put a japspeed on my SL, the trouble was on long journeys it was too loud)
Many thanks in advance.
Sam
PS-Photos to follow, shes very dirty at the moment and I dont want you lot to get the wrong idea about me.

By remaped do you mean a flash map or a full custom map?

The invoice says custom remap, "To apply a custom performance ECU remap via OBDII Kess system too.", but seeing as he was only out there 45mins-1hr, I think a flash map

Fellow noob here. A bit concerning reading that, who did your remap? I'm looking for recommended remappers as well as those to avoid! Currently rocking a standard Blob WRX.

As for exhausts, I don't think you'll get a clear answer. Seems like a ton of options and opinions vary. I'd also specify what you mean by "system". Axle back? Turbo back? Myself I'm just going with a Prodrive back box for now. Easy swap for a bit more burble but kind enough on the neighbours.

I think the old adage, buy cheap buy twice comes to mind, it was a standard flash remap, it costs £225 and a work friend had his TT done at the same time. He is extremely happy with his remap, me, well after removing the broken/stuck AC belt (see my other post-help!), I took the car out tonight (under the disguise of needed to fill up) and gave it a run out, didn't misbehave at all and it did actually feel faster, was very responsive first-second-third, then I slowed down (it was joining a duel carriageway. Previously on the last scoob I had I managed to get a full de-cat exhaust from the downpipe onwards, think it was a 4inch pipe and a bit too loud, it also brought on the engine warning light, when I saw a scooby specialist he said that I could have actually slowed down the car as it maybe was retarding itself and I should get a custom remap, I sold the car before I could get that done. I am also thinking of maybe just the prodrive back box (would like the full exhaust but a bit worried about the engine warning light etc- maybe someone on here can advise?), haven't got fortunes to spend and want to get the best possible bang for my buck. Keep me informed what you do and I will do the same.
Sam
