Unhappy New to the Scooby world

New to all this , so sorry if it's like sucking eggs

Bought a (52) wrx it has a hks mushroom filter kit and has a ninja 2 exhaust,

Apart from that I'm told it's pretty much unmolestered .

What sort of bhp would this be running and what would be the next steps to boost it ??

And does de catting invalidate your insurance ??
Would it pass an mot ?

Tell your insurance of all the mods or else they will no pay out if you stuff it. Also if a copper pulls you over and inspects the car and gets the insurance details, if there is no mention of mods you are technically driving without insurance and can do you for it.

Decatting will most likely mean emessions fail on the MOT. You can get insurance on a decat but some insurance companies can get funny...

Most people on here recommend a Remap when changing exhaust and an open filter like you have to maximise any power gains. Some models can actual lose power if changing exhausts and adding an open filter....

Best to submit everything to the insurance companies as they will find any excuse to invalidate your insurance should you crash...

Adrian Flux or the likes of Sky insurance would allow a level of mods that would not cause any increase in premiums unless you went mental and got carbon fibre doors, boot lid and carbon bonnets et al....

Welcome along.
Increase the braking power first, handling mods next then you'll have something decent to build on for increase in power,no good increasing engine power first imo.

Braided lines will help, the standard wrx brakes aren't great but decent discs and pads will help, the next level would be sti brembo but you would need sti or different wheels,I don't think brembos fit under wrx wheels.
A simple remap with your standard parts should see you increase power by 40-50bhp,anything more than that you would need to be looking at bigger tmic or fmic, bigger turbo and injectors.
Then the gearbox will be at its limit.
Have a look around the site, loads of good threads and advice on upgrades

Welcome mate, My dad has a 52 reg WRX and loves it, he has owned it for the last 8 years and the car has been faultless with the only money spending on it has been servicing/MOT/pads etc!!!

Id also bin that HKS mushroom filter, they suck in hot air from the engine bay without any proper shielding, and they are very oily and can mess your MAF sensor up, standard airbox is much better!!!

Welcome! Braided lines are a good start, and a brake stopper is a cheap way if sharpening the brakes.
As has already been said, unmapped big filters and a open exhaust can cut power as the ecu can't work out what is going on. The standard airbox is good up to about 350 bhp.
As a couple of people on the general technical board have found, unmapped de-cats can cause serious engine problems.
Good luck and have fun with the car.

Get it booked in for a diagnostics run on a dyno. That will give you an indication to the power you are currently running and should highlight any unknown issues with the car (if there are any). After that you will have a starting point from which to progress.

Welcome aboard.
