Unhappy

Just wondering what peoples feelings are about, which is the best imported Scooby? By that I mean which year and style of car do you feel offers the best handling, acceleration, top speed, value for money and looks etc (i.e. the whole rounded package). You might have noticed that I have put value for money in bold because I know that everyone would love a P1 or 22B but lets face it that ain`t gonna happen in a hurry for most of us! So let’s keep touch of reality here. I’m talking about cars that there is a good chance you could get your hands on and own yourself without having to sell your wife and children.
If you could list a couple of the reasons behind your decision that would make it a lot more interesting.

Ta.

Cool

WRX type r (non sti) v limited. without manual centre diff.

two door, sonic blue, looks like a P1, handles like a P1, goes like a P1, has abs, only difference is it doesnt have sti engine, but it still has 280PS and all the pros of an import such as climate control. only revs to 7500 though .

Basically, budget P1 as they can be bought now with next to no milage for 12 to 15k, like the one in the for sale section now!

Doesn't handle like a P1 mate...at least not untill you sort the suspension out. To be honest my dream scoob (ignoring the wifes ) is a cool grey STI5 saloon.
Practical 4 door, very rare colour (for UK), no piston slap, electric aerial(!), pre-kitted with big spoiler, nicer wheels than the 6 IMHO, better internals than the japanese WRX (apparently), good gearing for UK roads including motorway stretches and ABS.
Regards
Chuck

no chuck you are right, need to spend an exatr £500 on mellows P1 suspension. OK, so 12,500 to 15,500. still a bargain.

Cool

From a totally unbiased viewpoint a Version 5 Type R.

'Blistering' 'back-breaking' 'gob-smacking' 'on my signal unleash hell' acceleration that will annilihate most road-going machines.

Very short-shift gearing and sti suspension is perfect for going head-to-head against Evos on the twists.

2dr with blacked-out windows and 22b style aerofoil so looks the part on the block.

All the Sti interior/exterior goodies.

And all for around 14-16k!

Save yourself 10 (P1) or 20 (22b) grand.

Please Note - Would consider 22b for the sheer 'street-cred' 'fanny-magnet' factor!

Cool

I can sympathise Adam.

My bird thinks my Type R is the equivalent of the Orange 'General Lee' in the Dukes of HAzzard.

What!!!!

She says it looks common as muck and a 'Bazza mobile'.

What!!!!

Must arrange to take her off my insurance and get her something less common like a Maestro or Metro to drive.

Then I know who will be taking the p***!!!!

Ok then guys I`ve got £12K in my pocket, what should I buy and what sort of mileage/condition should it be in? And where can I get it?
Any other info would be much appreciated.

12k will get you an STi4 (Saloon or Type R)
You might struggle to get an STi5 for £12 (possibly a higher mileage one)

Looking around, £14 should secure you an STi5 with average mileage.

Considering P1's seem to start at around £20k used - An STi4/5 with mods makes a hell of a lot of sense.

Cool

Sti4 is the one to get as said above. 22b is based on this version and is quicker than it too.

Go for it!
