Brembo Pads and disc change on STI Foz
Hi
Am about to the do the above. Do I need to get new retaining pins or is the general consensus that they will tap out without much effort? I did a search but most posts were for the sale of the calipers. Many thanks.

If you feel it getting tight ( don't just keep turning ) it will snap 100%
Plenty penetrating fluid / rost of ice is also good but you must keep winding back in / out , taking it slowly .

This job has officially got me spooked now, so will be giving my hard earned pennies to a pro and I will not be attempting this on the driveway...

Noooooooooooooooope! **** that. I dread the sound of a shearing bolt or the sensation of stripping threads.....
I can see it now, all going well then I get a socket on the bolt, attempt a turn, apply some torque....then snap.
Then proceed to throw up with worry about how to nurse the car to the garage for the professional to deal with it....

M12 x 1.5 helicoil kit will be required from memory.
Something like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/15-PIECE-T...kAAOSwT6pViB3W
Alternatively just buy the M12x1.5 helicoils separately and find an M14x1.5 tap as they are tapped the same pitch as the finishing thread just one thread size larger.
You'll need to drill the original calliper holes out to 12.5mm to tap them M14x1.5 thread ready for the helicoils. When I fitted mine I used some Loctite threadlock Loctite 648 high strength high temperature retainer on the mating threads between calliper and helicoil when I inserted them just to ensure they would never move again. Once you've done this they will be stronger than when the callipers were new.
When re-fitting use some copper ease grease on the bolt thread as it goes into the helicoil. Job done!

The job was scheduled for two weeks from now. Am gonna order up the bits from ICP or Godspeed. Not decided what route to take discs and pads wise...
Might just be worth a punt...

the earlier sti brembos on a 2 litre impreza are the same as the sg9 fsti 100 pcd pads discs , the newer age widetrack discs are a different pcd , there is a very good chance that any gold brembos use the same pads but different pcd depending on age

Take your time. As you are changing pads and discs once you get some space under the caliper bolt heads blast some penetrating oil on the threads and wind them back in keep doing this and you will work the oil down the threads to ease removal. Once the bolts are out clean them with a wire brush and put some anti-seize grease on the threads, also put a little on the internal threads on the hub as this will grease the threads during tightening.

Added to watch list for when I order the parts. Thanks..
I've also found the pagid pads that were spoken of earlier and bookmarked them. Thanks all. Some great advice.
