Default Gc chassis number question

Hello, I've been looking at an earlier model impreza. It's a 2002 model but the Chassis number starts GC. Am I right in that it should be a 2000 plate or earlier?

manufacturer of GC stopped in 2000. It could be a late registration - 2002 is pushing it a bit..

I've seen a classic RA on a 2002 plate,I think the dvla have been known to get confused and sometimes take the import date as the registration date, may have had a private plate on at some point and when the private reg was removed the car was given the 2002 plate?

There is a 51 plate Classic knocking about.
What is the Applied Model Code, we can help identify it.
