Default GB 270 Wagon questions....

After years away from Subaru I've got the bug again with an eye on a WRX GB270 Wagon.

Excuse the questions.....

1: Is the 2.5 reliable, I read many things that engine failure was common or is that just the STI?

2: The car in question has had a remap, taking into consideration the above is it a ticking time bomb?

3: What else do I need to look for on this model?

Thanks in advance.
Jamie

drive it and enjoy it , it's been remapped on top of the 270 i would not have done that as it's no longer a 270 so why did the previous owner ? i would have left it alone to keep it as a 270 , thin paint possibly ? failures of engines is a bit random , 2007 plus are more prone , wrx and sti suffer from it , maybe a good reason to barter on price , mileage ? if engine goes budget for a full rebuild not just the top end as 75 per cent of the time bottom end will fail soon after , on the 2 litre it's about 50 per cent failing soon after

Depends on the remap. There are some very good mappers who know the 2.5 weakness and the map may be sympathetic and better than the standard.
But if it's been mapped by a "mate" walk away.
Either way you're going to want to see lots of service history. There are 2.5 engines that have done huge miles and produced great power on stock internals, but it's no secret that they aren't as strong as the 2.0.
The GB 270 is a great car and well spec'd. So, do you feel lucky...

He's a very well regarded mapper. Would suggest the previous owner has some research. What is the service history like? Any specialists near you that you could use to check it out?

I would've thought Scoobyworld (Loughbrough) or RCM (Hinckley) would've been your nearest ?

let your heart rule , but with any subaru you can have engine issues , he's a good mapper my thoughts is certain cars hold there value when they are kept as they were intended

Default It's my 270

Morning, thanks for the interest in my car. It's previous owner was lived in Cambridge city centre and had it serviced at Buckingham & Stanley.

The Andy Forrester remap is excellent and yes I did a lot of research before driving to Edinburgh to get him to do it!

I bought the car with the intention of keeping it and selling my Defender 90, but my kids love the 90 and my partner hates the 270 so it's got to go.
