Default Version 3 type r turbo problem....

Long story short my v3 type r had a bad blow on the headers so at the weekend I fitted a new flexi section in between the headers the one that I took off was actually split all the way around but was being muffled by the bolt on heat Shield!

So as soon as I started the car obviously it sounded totally different and much better, I notice I could hear a faint whine from around the turbo kind of like a dry bearing sound but only on idle/low revs, I was concerned but put it down to the turbo now getting the full amount of exhaust gas instead of it escaping before the turbo and me being a little paranoid.

The car is driving fine it does still boost to 1.2 bar (tried once out of interest) to ease my mind.....BUT tonight when I turned the car off the whine was really obvious with the engine off then it fades asway as the compressor stops spinning

SO assuming the turbo is goosed and I'm on a tight budget does anyone's know a rough price to have it refurbed (I think it's a VF23) or would I be better just trying to locate a good used unit?

Any input welcome

Cheers

Mick

VF23s are quite costly to rebuild, I'm currently having an old VF23 machined to accept a billet VF34 wheel for something a little different.

Yeah from what i can find online the bearings can't be reaplaced, I'll strip it off on Saturday and see what's going on.

I'm assuming there is no alternative I could fit without needing a remap?

Probably just have to take a chance on a used vf23 for now as I need the car on the road....
