Default Similar tdo5 turbos

Going to be getting my car mapped in a month or so but I'm unsure whether to stick with my tdo5 turbo?

Can someone help me by telling me what similar turbos are out there that would be better? Faster spoiling etc only looking to push at max 320bhp

my car is a version 2 classic and also do I go d/v or not? Or is there no difference

td05 on my old classic made 320 bhp no problem so should be fine. mine was decatted with 440 cc injectors. if your meaning dump valve stick with the standard one, unless you want the noise. it will just make you run a bit rich.

full exhaust system

big rad + high flow thermostat
going to get it mapped with an alcatek ecu with a/l and l/c

i think that's it, the car has done less than 1000miles in the last 2years.

Basically my friend went through 2 tdo5 turbos within the space of a month and with me wanted to take my car to the ring this year and do a few track days I don't really want it breaking so I'm either going to get it rebuilt or I'd replace it for a faster spooling turbo

TD05s are very tough old turbos. So going through 2 in a month would suggest something else amiss. They are very cheap and easy to rebuild too.

you are correct mate, suspected oil breather problems then a few weeks later the engine went.

whats everyone's thought on the vf30or vf35 turbos for a version 2?

would that be better than my old tdo5 and would I need to modify it in anyway or is it a straight swap

VF30/35 will spool a touch earlier. All 3 will make similar power. TD05 will hit harder in the midrange like an old-fashioned turbo. The VFs are a bit more linear. TD05 supposedly tougher and cheaper/easier to rebuild.

Is your V2 front entry or top entry? That could make a difference when deciding. I'd personally stick with the TD05 and see how you get on first.

what he said. I'd stick with the TD05 too and get it mapped by someone reputable. I've got a TD05 16G billet on my newage STI which makes 350+bhp. They're slightly dated turbos now, but can still make good usable power, and as said - they're cheap as chips and tough as old boots.

That spec should easily make 320+ with a good map.

yeah think I'm going to stick with it and just get it rebuilt, as for mapping I'm taking it to engine tuner in plymoth as I've only heard good things about them and they aren't too far from me

Default How to tell if i have a 20g tdo5

Hi guys sorry to jump on someone else thread. Does anybody know if its actually stamped on the turbo if I have a tdo5 20g? Not long bought a wrx v1 and the guy said it has a 20g turbo but not sure if he is telling porkies. Is there any tell tail signs like markings on the turbo or will the turbo have to come off to be able to tell? Thanks
