Default Oil in TMIC y-pipe

So I managed to get my hands on a second hand STI tmic which I intend to fit in the near future. However, the inside of steel y-pipe and turbo hose are drenched in oil, and by that I don't just mean a light film of oil, I mean enough to trickle into a small pot.

I'm not sure why this would be but I just want opinions on whether or not I need to get the y-pipe hoses and intercooler completely oil free before fitting.

The breathers for the cams and crank are put back into inlet which can cause this. Best to clean out first. I as well as others use an oil catch can that eliminates this.

As above. A catch can will eliminate it, but a small amount of oil is normal, and if the car is running extra boost and being driven hard then you can get quite a bit of oil in there. This can then pool into the throttle body if the car is standing a while and give a cloud of smoke when it starts up.

Thanks folks, I'll give it a good clean with some brake cleaner before it goes on, and now I understand the purpose of an oil catch can. Two birds, one stone.

And this is exactly why my 07 STI now has a Mocal catch can fitted.
Nice brushed aluminium piece with decent welds and good quality fittings.
It also has a sight tube on one side to show the level of what it's caught.

It fits perfectly to the left hand side of the fuse box - this space became free when I had my secondary air pump deleted on engine rebuild.
