Default Uniroyal Rain Sports 3's

Had 4 new 245/40/18 uniroyal rain sport 3's fitted on my JDM Hatch yesterday and tonight was my first Rain test. I'm absolutely blown away with how good these tyres are in the wet! They handle better and give you more confidence in the wet than in the dry, amazing tyres. Very impressed and will defiantly try these on a wet track day.

Let us know how you go on track

I've just fitted uniroyal rainmax 2's to my work van, even on damp roads tonight they grip loads better than the Lassa tyres that still had 5mm on when I took them off

Darren on track you'll get on alright with them pal, I ran mine at pembrey and Combe.
Unfortunately mine are the non xl sidewalls so a bit to soft for track, but they were right enough and at £42 a corner who's complaining pal. A lot of the SLS boys use them as wets.
I did cadwell in our lads stock Clio 172 he's got them on, again they weren't bad. In dry on track they will overheat. They are a right enough road tyre.

Where did you buy the tyrre from andvdid you get a good deal for buying 4?

For me its a toss up between the Avon's and the Uniroyal's... Both about the same price.

They have fantastic grip in both wet and dry and are progressive.

The downside is the sidewalls are made of chewing gum, these are the XL versions, too.

First guess would be that the side wall is so soft that under heavy cornering they are flexing sideways and rolling on to the side wall and wearing it away prematurely.

I have used Rainsports in the past and for non performance cars they are pretty good value for money, you can get on camskills Goodyear Eagle F1's for £5 more a corner in 225/45/17 and they are much better for performance driving, the grip in the wet and dry is above the uniroyals.

I had some on my VRS the XL variety. They were epic in the dry and pretty grippy in the wet. When the Bridgestones get worn on the FSTI I shall be changing them to the RS3's! Mine cost me £62 for some 225/45.r17 XL's

I don't think they will suit a car with the weight of a Subaru, the above was in a 1100 kg car, they will also make the steering feel vague.

As Frylite has said above, for non-performance cars they should be OK. Don't get me wrong the grip is amazing but they have too soft sidewalls.

Your not a million miles away ref' sidewalls, the grip is great but you can feel the softness in the corners. In a way it's an improvement as it's been set up for the odd track day so they do help soften the ride as daily and since I've bought the M3 it's my wet day car.

I did opt for the xl and y rated but it's just for the wet wheather l, not tracking it at all so I asume it'll be OK. Mostly motorway with the odd b road .

Whats the other options.. that are in the same category at the Uniroyal?

Should I look at the Avons again.

I have not tried the Z-lines personally (only Nokian WRG3 which were good) but someone I know has in a 2012 saloon STi and was satisfied with them.

I had S1 Evo in a 205 GTi, they were OK.

From the 3 you have listed above I'd go for the Nokians.

Edit: if money is not an issue Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I had them in my FSTi and not succeeded in breaking traction on the road. Fantastic tyre on the wet even at around 4 - 6C ambient temperature, on the dry and on track, too.

I've said it before, but I would go for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 http://www.camskill.co.uk/m55b0s336p..._Noise%3A_68dB Only an extra £15 a tyre over the Hankooks / Nokians. http://www.evo.co.uk/features/18309/...-evo-tyre-test

I have been using Uniroyal Rainsports for a few years now during the winter months and found them to be a decent tyre. I currently have some on my winter wheels fitted to my 2006 Prodrive Wagon
