Sold Up What Next?
Hi All,
After eight years of ownership I've finally sold my 460BHP V3 STI to a new member. I was sad to see it go it's one of the best cars I've owned and certainly the fastest, but times change and due to family commitments I've hardly used it over the last few years.
I'm after ideas what to buy next, I need something with good power, plenty of room for kids dogs etc. Ability to do the odd track day would be nice, but I'm not going to build an all out track car. My wife wants me to get something sensible this time so must look understated so she thinks I've finally grown up.
I'd like something with modding potential for when I get bored but not a priority as I'm not buying a car to modify from the start. I don't care about running costs but need something fairly reliable.
Thanks, Richard.

I'm also open to other ideas I don't have one particular car in mind but an RS6 would possibly do most of what I want.

I believe they have paddle shift so not as bad as auto only. I'm not bothered about the running costs as long as the car is reasonably reliable. Have you had one before, if so how did you find it?

Think £2k for a proper cam belt change.
Think £3-4K for an auto box repair.
The DSC suspension is a nightmare (many have junked this for high-end Bilstein PSS9 kits).
Any turbo failure, is an engine out job.
Etc, etc, etc.
They make running highly strung imprezas seem cheap. People buy them relatively cheap these days, but tend not to keep them long, once they realise they need a second mortgage to keep them tip-top.
Buy one that's been skimped on, and it'll make you weep lol

I would love an e39 m5 myself, but they look dated as a day to day car imo, and bmw reliability is a myth in my experience.
Rs6 looks good on paper, but they seen to suffer massively from random reliability issues too..
How about an rs4 avant? That's currently on my short list, or a new bmw 140i touring ?

The B5 RS4 has shot up in value in the last year or so.
A while ago, a good one could be had for £9-10K,..........now they're changing hands for £15-20K and beyond. Getting more rare, especially as a friend of mine has broken 14 of them for parts lol
The much later B7s can be had for that or less now. Generally a better car out of the box, but without that turbo kick or massive tuning potential.

Hmm I've had a look at a couple of forester stis, and I agree they tick a lot of boxes in the practicality dept, at least for me, however I don't like the look of them at all... too boxy, unfortunately
The c63 is a good shout... available in 4 door as well, buthe quite dear really for something that will no doubt get wrecked by kids (at least my daughter seems to have a knackered of wrecking car interiors)

Nah, a few friends in the Audisrs club have them, but I wouldn't own one. Been out in a few, and they are epic for their size, and make an incredible V8 noise. Not much driver involvement though, and my tuned S4 feels more brutal, and a lot more pointy.

Now I'm not sure the Mrs will think this is sensible but I do and it's my cash I'm spending so I'm quite tempted by one of these. The 2.5 puts me off but if it blows up I could drop in a 2L with a big turbo and front mount and I'm ready for 500 BHP.
