Hi guys,my name is Aaron, i'm 33 and from derbyshire,
i bought a 05 plate wrx for my wife to tool about in then eventually throw it in the garage and mothball it in the hope it will be worth something one day.
Except....i took it for a hammer the other night and broke the bottom end,i would like to get it fixed,i admit i went into subaru ownership blind,i didnt do any research just bought it off the advice of my mate and because i couldnt find a tidy enough leon cupra r!
So can anyone throw me any tips as how much to rebuild my engine(84k) or shall i buy another engine?
Also im not far from chesterfield but have been told to steer clear of a well known garage there.
My mate will rebuild the engine just need to know of any good breakers or places to get parts from?
Cheers in adavance!

Hi and welcome
I would just drive and enjoy the car as I cant see by putting the car away hoping it will eventually go up in value will happen as the 05 WRX isnt a desirable/limited edition car.
As for breakers, check MB Developments on here Matt who runs it will steer you in the right direction!!

As for storing it,its quite tidy in my eyes and was planning to mothball it for years and years until they were rare, might not happen! it wasnt going away for a few years anyway,im a cosworth man through and through and thats why i bought it for my wife really,im not that into it but obviously need to fix it! she loves it!

It won't go up much in value, It might be worth more in 30 years, but not an investment
If you want an investment look at 22B, Type R, P1, type RA, RA-R, spec C
The garage in chesterfield has a very good customer base and knowledge. The run world leading cars, one car even beats Ken Block at gymnkanah
One video of an employee not looking after a customers car doesn't mean the owner and rest of the staff are rubbish
Compare the chesterfield garage to the rotherham based subaru garage
Limited performance RRR - Remaps (FPMSL- 1 day introduction to mapping does not make a mapper), Reshell (after he wrote of a customers car on a test drive), Really lucky (me as a customer, luckily he didn't kill my car, unlike many people that weren't lucky )
Sheffield Subaru Service and area 52 aren't far away and always get good reviews

Must be luck of the draw mate. Do you have any history or know how its been treated? Either way get intouch with matty in breakers section and sort a nice sti short engine. Price wise id think £1300ish upwards depending on what options he got but he wont sell you one they not happy with.

hi again guys, sorry to bump this but i bought a engine from matt at nb developments,my mates got it on the floor swapping bits over, mines a wrx, this engine is a sti engine.
my mate rang me and said the new engine has two valves, one on each head, that he thinks are for variable valve timing,it also has two cam sensors down the back of the engine,my cars wiring loom doesnt have connector plugs for the sensors, and the heads on the wrx engine doesnt have the vvt valves,so will the new engine run without the sensors and vvt coneccted or do i need a new ecu and loom? any help appreciated getting to end of my tether with this car now.

Not sure if you will need sti ecu but your ecu if can be used will need mapping to get the avcs working. You could always use your wrx heads on the sti block tho simple swap over with some new gaskets etc

cheers for reply nortonscooby, does anyone know what parts i would need to keep the sti engine in? so far i know i need a sti ecu,and inlet manifold and engine loom, does anyone know if thats it? or do i need more parts like car loom etc?
#23
Im not sure you will need the ecu but if you do make sure you get the lock barrel, keys and locks aswell. Why do you need the inlet manifold? The sti might get a small gain if any and they dont have the tgv's. But i had my car mapped by andrew carr using carrberry rom with twin maps and switchable antilag and he just locked my tgv's out. That was 18 months ago and ive never had any issues. If i was you id give matty(m.b developments) a call and he will tell you what route to take and how to do it. He wont say you need this and that and he got it on shelf etc.
