Default Clonking rear brake pads

Hi all,

I was getting a nasty clonking noise when in reverse and applying the brakes.

Took it to Len at Subaru 4 You yesterday who diagnosed the fault within 5 seconds of me demonstrating the noise to him.

I have an 07 STI Spec D. About a year ago I had Ferodo rear pads and discs fitted.

All it was I was hearing was very slight movement of the brake pads in the rear calipers. Got some copper slip today and put a small amount down the edges of the pads and under and over the shims. Gave everything a clean first etc.

I can't believe how something so simple sounded so nasty and serious (and expensive)....thought CV joint, driveshaft, rear diff...all sorts.

Problem seems to be solved and the brake pedal seems good. Very easy straightforward one that.

I'll monitor it for now, but if it continues or comes back I'll be putting Brembo pads in...discs really don't have a lip on them....I think I'll get away with it.

Thanks Len

Copper grease is good stuff. I'd just fitted some new brakes and copper grease was used.

I have used copper slip but have since found proper brake grease is better and a tube is inexpensive.
