Default Carbon fibre bonnet?

I bought a 2015 WRX STI in dark grey and I'm considering putting a carbon fibre bonnet on it. Although I think it would look good, I've heard conflicting opinions so now I'm not sure it would be a good move. What are people's thoughts/experiences with carbon fibre?

It is a lot of money but I have a really nasty stone chip in the middle of my bonnet which will cost me several hundred pounds to fix anyway. I thought the carbon fibre might be slightly less prone to chipping

The dark grey is crying out for carbon isnt it ?

I'm always dubious about good fitment , bonnets never seem to sit right. And quality can be an issue , if it goes "milky" it looks horrible.

So i imagine a good quality one is the way to go , and it will look awesome !

Just had a look on a few sites, OEM sytle would be my choice. Says "bonnet pins required" , so do you have to drill these bonnets to fit them ? Another site says you loose the bonnet lifters too as the bonnet is lighter ?

Seibon seem to be fairly good quality, but i agree if it doesn't fit right it will look awful. I'd be gutted if I got it fitted and didn't like it!
If I get it done then I will definitely post some pictures

Seibon say that bonnet pins are required , what's that all about ?

Yes I was worried about that, I spoke to Seibon and they told me that the pins are an additional safety feature to hold it in place because of the lightness of the bonnet

That would annoy me , both for looks and the risk of potential ******* up of a £600+ bonnet !

I think depends on colour of car

i had a proper carbon bonnet on my classic wagon that was silver and it looked awesome (to me)
but have seen carbon bonnets on blue new ages and thought it took away the look of the car (tho I totally love blue - all blue)

so kinda depends on colour, if yer car is urban grey or dark grey I reckon would look great - but reckon you'll have to get yer wheels the same darker colour to match

and yeah they are way expensive !

I can do far highly recommend the fit and look if Seibon. Just had this fitted, and my matching bonnet us on its way in the next couple of weeks.

Supplied by Amber Perfirmance, they have a BRZ that has loads of carbon labels, looks amazing.

Why not apply a carbon wrap first to see if you like the look before spending several hundred pounds on it.

My car is dark grey metallic, and my wheels are also dark grey so I'm hoping it would look okay. I am a bit nervous about spending all that money and then I hate it but i cant live with the huge stone chip that I have on my current bonnet- it's driving me mad!

Yeah that does look good. That's reassuring about the fit, that was another worry!

Is that fitted and attached? I'm not being funny but the front doesn't seem to sit 100% at the front near the glass; low on the left, high on the right.
I'm not giving you any grief, I have a cheap carbon boot lid and the fit is pretty terrible. I had to put a fair few spacers on the bolts and it still doesn't come anywhere near.
I'd get a Seibon one if the fit is better.

To be fair, I can't remember 100% if that was bolted down or not, it was plonked on for pics, so this may have been one or it might just be a bad pic. It fits great.

I think the rubber bung things aren't fitted in that pic either.

I think the top left is a shadow rather than sitting low looking at the pic

Unfortunately I didn't weigh both, it's definitely a noticeable difference though.

Bit annoying actually as I really meant to do a weight comparison. Might take it back off if I get chance before spoiler goes on.

I have a seibon bonnet on my bugeye (and do luck carbon boot lid), and a unknown brand carbon bonnet on my wifes classic. The fit isn't great on either, not horrific, but the side gaps are quite large. We have fitted aero catches to both due to the flex at motorway speeds, more for piece on mind tbh.
They are substantially lighter than oem, I had to remove the torsion bars on the boot to avoid breaking.

Can the front wings not be adjusted slightly to help?

Its a pretty even gap on both sides, but a bigger gap than standard. Doesn't bother me too much really.
