I am thinking of putting a set of Toyo T1Rs on my 52 wrx, these will only be used on the car from April - October and are going on a set of refurbished STI wheels I put on for the summer. What do people think about the Toyo tyres.

Chocolate tyres for newage. The walls aren't stiff enough, noisy tread I found on my 07 STi. Took them off with over half the tread left. Never again. OK for Classics I believe. Bridgestone Potenza for me all day long.


Not sure what the best would be for a WRX, but T1R did not inspire me in the least.


Maybe a Continental or a Yoko? Others will recc.

 

Don't do it, absolutely sh!te on a Newage.

Get a set of Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's, very good tyres and highly rated on here. Around about the same money as the Toyo's too.

 

+1 Bridgestone potenza's 235 40 17 or 45 I think, changed the drive on mine completely I tried the Toyo r888's defo a track based tyre

 

Bridgestone adrenaline RE002 235/45/17 from cams kill I use them and they have been by far the best set I've used. I used them on a trackday as well and they just seemed to get better as the day went on and they haven't worn unlike other brands I've used.

 

Is there much difference with re070's and the re002's I got mine from Brian @ cams

 

Don't bother with the Toyo T1Rs, you may as well fit hedgehunter's and give me the difference in price

Toyo T1R's were fitted to my last blob when I got it, I was amazed by how easy a std wrx 4WD car would slide on slightly damp roads, not impressed at all

I replaced them with 4mm left on them and bought Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's, what a difference , I didn't even get stuck in a foot of snow

My latest blob had Bridgestone potenza RE050's fitted, they were loads better than the T1R's, but not a patch on the Sessanta's, I replaced the RE050's with about 3mm tread left (I gave them to ScoobyLou) and I have fitted a new set of Sessanta's

The only other tyres I would consider are F1 asyms

 

I had the RE070s before found them quite hard wearing and a good tyre but the RE002 are so much better it seamed the more heat I got into them the better they were on track.
On road I can't fault them there good in the wet not noisy and they grip mate

 

Not heard much about the 002's, so any input is welcome

Haha fair enough I'd of thought Hawkeye D was using RE070 I'm sure these were used by subaru mine came with from new?. Give the fella a chance lol but in all honesty mate can't fault them on road or track

 

Sorry guys, yes, RE070.
They do tramline a bit though, but I don't mind that, gives feedback and keeps me alert!

 

I've got the RE003 on my hatch and they are amazing and in the wet.

 

I've heard good stuff about the 070's, not many mention the tramlining though. Have you had handling set up?

 

AGREE with above they work great on 16-17" lightweight classics but on the heavier Newage 17-18" are absolutely rubbish IMHO

you need strong side wlls or it will turn into an understeering wreck

I wouldn't put Toyos on a push bike ( except 888's)

Bridgestone are great tyres but hi wall strength also means tramlining

Michelen Pilot sports 3 were also good

Standard suspension set up. I do have Prodrive settings dialled in, but I think that's more for a lowered car.


Handles good though. Just got shot of my front Whiteline ARB, load of rubbish it was. Now back to standard. Kept touching my lower arms and bent back my droplinks. Other than that, a great mod.....not!


Also just discovered that my rear Whiteline ARB is touching the plastic cover at the bottom of my fuel filler neck cover.


I cannot recommend Whiteline, and will certainly not be using them again...on a non lowered car anyway.

 

I've had T1R's on my classic for a while, 2 sets and i've not had a problem with them

 

I went through many, many T1R's on my classic and they would still be my tyre of choice if I was running around in a sub 1300kg car. As previously mentioned, they are not good for a new age.
I currently run Vredstein Sessanta on my 330d which are really good once they have some heat in them although they are not as hard wearing as I might like. Having said that, the rears have done circa 18k miles and only cost me £97 each in 255/35/18

 

Did it come with runflats as standard?
I've just bought a 530d and don't really care much for them.

 

Can I add my two penny's worth? I had goodyear eagle f1's on 18" with a 94 rated side wall when I bought my blob wagon. The grip and feedback on them was superb (for spirited road driving) in both wet and dry. However they were very noisy and in conjunction with the 18" wheels and knackered suspension made the ride pretty unbearable for a daily drive.
I've now got 17" wheels with bridgestone re050 on. They're ok in the dry but in the wet they are shocking. Unless you like powerslides on damp roundabouts at 20mph (my children now think I should be a drift racer). They're also loud and tend to tramline. They've got a couple of mm of life left so when they're done I'm going to go for either goodyear f1's with a 91 sidewall or Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta.
Ps. Also had Michelin PS3'S on my ST220, and they were pretty good, decent grip in all conditions, not too loud and decent feedback. 1500 ish kg and 250 bhp through the front wheels did mean that they didn't last that well though.

 

Yep, I did have RFTs but decided that £250 a corner for tyres was taking the ****

 

Toyos are pretty good - on a classic!

I've had a couple of sets on mine, but have recently moved on to Goodyear Eagle F1s. Just as good, but can't really comment on the wear as I don't do that many miles in it now.

Believe they are not really suitable for newage ones.
