Its not sound deadening, its designed to crumble and put out an engine bay fire hence why it only usually covers the middle portion. No point soundproofing a bonnet with a huge scoop in the middle. Sack it off, they turn to powder and fall apart.

But this is one of the only cars with a scoop and all other cars have the padding without a scoop. I highly doubt that will put out a burning engine. In fact i would bet money it wouldnt

That's what its for it is in the workshop manual. The plastic grommets are supposed to melt then it falls and smothers the fire.

Realy well either way its abit like the under tray you dont realy need it. I suspect most have gone dry and brittle and lost there fire killing property's anyway. I should have set fire to mine before I binned it for an experiment

I always thought it was a heat shield as well. Looks like mine's coming off as well then!

Mine's gone now too. I'm glad I decided to cover the engine before I took it off, it flaked everywhere!!
