Default Bonnet heat shield

I am just having my bonnet painted and the heat shield underneath was a mess is this really needed or shall I get a new one what others doing cheers

Its not a heat shield its sound deadening you dont need it

Its not sound deadening, its designed to crumble and put out an engine bay fire hence why it only usually covers the middle portion. No point soundproofing a bonnet with a huge scoop in the middle. Sack it off, they turn to powder and fall apart.

Yea pulled mine off over a year ago, looks alot better and caused no issuses.

But this is one of the only cars with a scoop and all other cars have the padding without a scoop. I highly doubt that will put out a burning engine. In fact i would bet money it wouldnt

That's what its for it is in the workshop manual. The plastic grommets are supposed to melt then it falls and smothers the fire.

Realy well either way its abit like the under tray you dont realy need it. I suspect most have gone dry and brittle and lost there fire killing property's anyway. I should have set fire to mine before I binned it for an experiment

I always thought it was a heat shield as well. Looks like mine's coming off as well then!

Well without it my bonnet doesn't get hot, and its caused no problems with anything else.

Mine's gone now too. I'm glad I decided to cover the engine before I took it off, it flaked everywhere!!
