i'd estimate that mine was around 6.5secs (without destroying clutch/gearbox/engine) for a quick acceration start on average road surface / conditions. (e.g. in a **** around race easily beating a Nova GTE 1.6i)

technically i started pulling at 5000rev's and didn't "Drop the clutch" (as i would like to keep it running nice).

those sort of results are usually done with 15 attempts without giving a flying crap about the car (i.e. full bore starts and jamming the gears in without using the clutch)..

Hi,

Using my brother's O-60 timer on his HKS turbo timer (so not as accurate as proper timing gear but better than shouting at your passenger holding a stopwatch!) I clocked a 4.81 sec 0-60 time on a wet road (not raining though)!

His car then was a standard MY97 with full decat exhaust only and uprated suspension.

His clutch did smell for a while afterwards though!!

0-60 is a load of bollox when it comes to comparing cars, especially turbo-charged ones. It is too dependent on how much abuse you are prepared to give the vehicle, the condition of the road surface, and most importantly, whether the car will do it in second gear or not!
Obviously with a turbo'd car if you do it on a cold damp day it is going to be quicker than a stinking hot dry day, on a cold day the air is denser, therefore a higher oxygen content, and on a cold slightly damp road surface the rear tyres are more likely to break traction slightly allowing the engine to stay on boost, especially with the older cars like mine, which won't get out of bed for less than 4000rpm.


I would recommend anyone contemplating attempting a true 0-60 test reads an article by John Barker in the Nov 93 copy of Performance Car, in it he details sitting next to a fellow tester (David Vivian, I think) whilst he put a 964 model 911 Turbo through its standing start paces, 330bhp meets a total of 18" of P-Zero. He revved the car to 6000rpm, side-stepped the clutch, and sheared both driveshafts clean off the gearbox - Ouch!

wasnt there an article in revs(?) magazine in june 2000 that had scoobs against cossies. they had standard, midly modded, modded, and heavily modded i think.

i think one of them managed to crack 4 secs. i might be wrong though!

i am sure some of them featured were from SIDC.

Sorry but if Craig H took 3.7 with approx 400bhp, how can you possibly achieve 3.5 with only 258bhp ? My 94 wrx rolling roaded at 265bhp only managed 4.8. Mine and Craig's times were recorded useing GPS timing gear for Banzai magazine, extremely accurate timing compared with timing on the road against a clock or meter. My Scooby is now running in excess of 300bhp and I think I would still struggle to get a 4.3 sec 0-60.

Same as an average sustained 180bhp at the wheels, including launch, gearchanges etc.

i thought my method of timing was quite accurate,

the digital camera i used records at 25 frames per second so therefore accurate to 1/25th of a sec?

if you play the clip back by using the slider bar and watch the clock in your video clip software you can see the needle go from 0mph to 60mph in 4.3 seconds

a lot depends on the start though, i did three runs, the other 2 were above 5 secs!.

im going to film it again with a stopwatch mounted on the dash and the camera stuck to the roof, then work the seconds out from that, with just me in car reckon ill get under 4 secs, watch this space...

<sigh> ... but when your needle shows 60mph on the speedo you're not doing an actual 60mph. It's more likely you did around 4.6-4.7s and (I repeat) 3.5s from a 4WD 258mph is just about physically impossible.

Having been with CraigH & Stef @ said REVS shootout...

Bog Standard MY99 (Wagon ) on NUL with me driving 5.8s

The trick (I did 5 runs) was NOT to change up to 3rd as standard gearing in 2nd means rev limiter @ 62mph, so keep the changes down & foot to floor

200+ shootout in Aug is likely to not improve much (for me) as only addition of PPP but will be running SUL, but it will be a drag style 1/4 , so no benefit of keeping the revs on to get a good 0-60 when going for the 1/4...

For the speedo thingy, an indicated 150 was approx 134 true MPH, although it looked good

5.5 secs average with very easy on the clutch - just 2000 revs and let the clutch fully enguage.

The speedo on my MY00 seems very accurate. The Bluei radar detector shows 102MPH at 100MPH on the speedo.

Any one know how accurate GPS tracking devices are?

I think it's marginally less likely he'll do sub 4 than the motorway speed limit being increased to 120mph this year.

Guess my fairly stock new age would probably do sub 6 if I was nasty off the line.

its getting abit technical in here anywhere under 5 seconds is f*****g quick my friends i have personally done 5.2 in my99 turbo although timed by stopwatch but that will do me for the time being we are one if not the quickest cars around apart from supercars etc...

Low 4secs in my GTiR.It's not standard though.My speedo is very accurate(surprisingly)as when I go through the finish on a 1/4 mile and compare my speedo reading to the time slip they're identical.

your probably pushing sub 5 secs but only just, even a PPP'd turbo with 250bhp is only capable of 4.9 secs and that is probably being quite harsh on the car too
You really need a GPS readout to see what sort of 0-60 times your getting, and having people in your car will only add 1 or 2 10th's of a second to your time, it will show more in gear though.

I do agree 0-60 just shows how much traction versus power a car has and that why scoobs get good 0-60 as they can put a large amount of power down. Take a standard classic STI 0-60 in about 4.5 but 0-100 is about 12 seconds so 60-100 7.5 doesnt sound that impressed anymore does it . Thats where we loose out once its rolling the 4WD is a only going to slow us down and cause big transmission losses. Having said that I prefer a car with AWD.

0-60 in my car dont know 0-58 its pretty quick though .
