Please help me!
Hello everyone,
I'm not a car person (don't shoot me down in flames yet please!) but I do have a Scooby that I think is great. Unfortunately I had a little prang in it last week and the bonnet has been pushed back and has jammed. A friend's mechanic had a quick look and tried to get it open but failed. He says he needs to cut a hole in the bonnet to reach the catch to release it. So I need a new bonnet - and I've spent days searching the internet for a new bonnet without really knowing what I'm looking for. I've had so much conflicting advice about whether different bonnets will fit or not and I'm wary of buying on the internet when I'm not sure what I'm doing. I don't know what the postings mean when they say blobeye or buggy and the most of the pictures seem to have big vents or holes cut for vents which my car doesn't have.
Is there anyone out there who would be kind enough to help me please? I don't really know any people who know about cars .... and I don't know where to turn to. I'm struggling and don't know what to do.
My car is a silver Subaru Impreza 2001 (51 plate) 5dr hatchback non-turbo.

Post a picture up so we can see the car, I would say it’s a Newage Bugeye on a 51 Plate
Your bonnet will not have any holes or vents it at all as its a Sport, or should not anyway, that is unless someone has changed it form original
Have a look in this thred:

Not sure if this photo attachment will work (oh it did!)
And I've looked through pages and pages on the forum you've suggested - my problem is I don't know what I'm looking for - all I know about cars is they get me from A to B, and I don't know anyone who knows any more than I do.

I'm so sorry everyone but I don't really understand what you all mean - I really appreciate all the replies but what's an intercooler and what does n/a mean? I've been told to search on ebay - is that the best place?
Oh and scrap dealer replied to one of my messages saying they only have WRX (what does that mean? Presumably that wouldn't fit my Scooby?)
{I'm really trying to understand but for me it's like learning a foreign language without any English translation!)

N/A means naturally aspirated -i.e no turbo on your car. The vent /bonnet scoop you see on most scoobies is designed to draw air into the Intercooler of the car - but only cars with turbos have these.
WRX means world rally cross (a branch of impreza models)

And would someone be able to tell me what a "Subaru Impreza STI bonnet, lightweight and freshly wrapped including scoop" is? What's the STI bit?

I've sent a message to the seller of this ebay item 262295594465 to see if this one will fit - but I'm a bit worried about buying something when I know nothing, as the seller could tell me anything and I'd just have to take their word for it.

Hi, basically you have a 2001 "Bugeye" sport impreza.
so you need a bonnet from another "Bugeye" sport.
WRX is the turbo version of your car and comes with a scoop in the middle of the bonnet, you could get a "Bugeye" WRX bonnet and it would fit however you would have the scoop depends if you want the scoop in the bonnet or not but it would fit.
STI bonnet is the same as far as im aware but is lighter and has an even bigger scoop than the WRX
There is a Bugeye Sport bonnet the same as what is on your car now on Ebay 181864359033 however its in black so would need painting.

The ebay seller that had the black bonnet says he might have a silver turbo one with scoop (although it's £120 rather than the £30 the non turbo was) - he's calling me back after he's had a look to see if he definitely has it. (The scoop won't make any difference to the running of my car will it?

Thank You again Neeko1988! I can't keep up with all your posts! I'm in West London but have family about 1hr20 away from Canterbury so thought the Canterbury one might be easier - although the Boston one is much better, I don't really want to look like a boy racer on the road (I'm a 50+yo female, not a 20yo lad!)

Just look for a 2001 bug eye bonnet and you'll be fine, with scoop or without.

I'm waiting on the Lincolnshire dealer to call me back - but I now have another question - what variant is my car? How do I find out? One website said it was a GX but all I can find is GD or GG when I'm "bonnet searching". And does anyone have a clue if it's a hatchback or an estate? I've always thought it was a hatchback but I've now been told "Subaru didn't make hatchbacks in 2001 it's an estate" (by someone who presumably thought I was from another planet if I didn't know this!)

look in the engine bay of your car on the passenger side it should have a metal plate with the engine code on - GX, GC etc etc. Im gonna assume you have a wagon.

As for the rest, GX is the trim level (i.e. you have a 2001 Impreza GX). GD/GG are body/chassis variants (i.e. saloon/estate) and you'll find that on the main VIN plate in the engine bay. Wikipedia is quite good for making sense of which is which.

Yes thank you - I've phoned them ... he's going to check that he still has it and is calling me back (I'm still waiting for the call) It's a bit of a journey but if fits and as an added bonus it's silver, then I'll hire a van to go get it!!
