Default Banging wipers

Hi people my s REG 98 turbo front wipers are banging on each other and go down further than they should really loud in car some times nothing depends on different speeds I've seen forums saying about wiper bushings or linkage but car only has 55k on clock and has barely been used in the rain I'm hoping it's the motor but dowt it any ideas people really don't fancy pulling it all apart

The nuts that hold the wiper arm on may have come loose?
Check and adjust.

try taking the wipers off and reposition them on the splines.
When you remove them, remove the nut, then screw it back on 2 full turns. spray WD40 on and wiggle/pull the wiper off (nut will stop it hitting you in the face)

or, try fitting some smaller wipers

They do, you're maybe hearing it more as you're looking for it? I couldn't hear mine over engine noise, exhaust and intake roar

Have the wipers been off at all? new screen?

So it's started after you recently changed the wipers, did you just change the blades or did you take the whole arms off?

When you say banging and go down further than they should , when on are they hitting the scuttle panel and the A pillar. If so it could be the bushes in the wiper linkage

Sounds like the arms need adjusting to me, undo the nuts, remove the arms, reset them to where they should sit and then put the nuts back on and tighten them down

Mine was hitting the a pillar, was worn mechanism. Given its approaching 18 years old could be that if adjusting doesnt solve it (didnt on mine)
