If running the standard STi V8 pistons and STi 5 cylinder heads, then an educated guess would be 0.6 or 0.78 MLS head gaskets depending if the heads/block faces have been skimmed in the past.

Only the person building the engine can determine the correct gasket thickness after measuring everything and checking the head vols etc.

Not using a v8 sti bottom end that's what I had it's now going to be a v1 cdb and it's me that's going to be putting it back together

Regardless of what block you are using as they share a common standard deck height from the factory - what pistons are you using in your build ?

If using the standard dog bone pistons from the CDB with the STi 5 heads :
1.6mm gaskets would give you a static CR of approx. 8.1:1
1.1 mm gaskets would give you around 8.4:1

Is it just a standard untouched 23 year old block you are using ? Seems like alot of work and expensive to gamble on an old block.

Custom manifold was done ages ago mate when I had v8 sti bottom end so just replacing the block for a v1 cdb until I get round to getting the v8 rebuilt

I wasn't questioning the manifold buddy.
Just wondered why you opted to use an old block that isn't exactly known for its strength. This whole exercise will be costing quite a few hundred quid and alot of work, surely you would of been better just sourcing a low mileage newage STI block and being done with it ???
