Default Odb monitor data logging jdm ssm

So I've had no luck with elm327 running dash command ect it only lets me code read no gauges I think due to car being ssm. I'm now looking at getting a kkl vag com 409.1 lead and running free ssm or even rom raider. Is this correct? Anyone using these give feed back or even got the elm to work ect?

If it`s a cheapo elm they seem to be hit and miss for some of the better aps, seems to be mentioned a lot on the web by reviewers and ap designers themselves......might be that? Torque lite read all the gauges that my ECU supports no problem. Torque pro will log some data, but you need to download and present the data yourself. If you just want gauges, they should be good. If you want to log data, then the vagcom and a lap top prob best.

It works for codes not gauges but on my bro's focus rs it works fine I read something about it being jdm Subaru select monitor ? So elm327 won't work?

Any cheap vagcom cable and romraider will do fine.

a vag cable, laptop and romraider is probably the best way to data log on a standard ecu anyway. its more comprehensive and you can access far more data than apps like torque and dashcommand do, handy tho they are for general info and showing some nice gauges.

on my jdm but the elm wont show the gauges etc, but will for fault codes, this is because of the ssm.

there is a elm dongle out there that does read the ssm, but it is around £100 on its own
