Default HKS SSQV not very audible

Had a bit of a search and there's lots of threads about the HKS SSQV but couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

Basically i have an HKS SSQV on my WRX and it's the best sounding BOV i have heard and I've had quite a few on various cars. It's really loud and you can hear it at low revs with an ear piercingly loud chirp at high revs.

I have the same BOV on my STI (Same 3 spoke silver fin), and you get a very faint air releasing sound at low revs and a fairly quiet chirp at full boost. I was wondering why and how i can get the valve on my STI to sound like the one on my WRX

Do you reckon it's down to the spec:

WRX is running 1.4-1.5 bar I think, cone air filter and 3" straight through exhaust.

STI is completely standard PPP model (1.2 bar ish from Defi reading).

Here's a pic of the particular HKS SSQV from my STI

Is it a genuine one? Or a copy?

I couldn't say for definite. Knowing how many fakes are in circulation it wouldn't surprise me if both were fake.

The one on the STI though, I would say is more likely to be genuine, as the one on the WRX doesn't have any logos on it. Here's a pic of it, I don't have a close up off the one on the STI though. I will go out with a torch and see if I can get some.

Took a few pictures of the one on the STI, not the best pictures as I was using a wind-up torch. Both fakes, or does one look it might be genuine?

looking at the photos, they both appear fake. The wording on the HKS should be reflective in a rainbow style if that makes sense.

Also your best bet is to remove it and put the standard one back on

the first one is a version 2 iirc so will be different to the second one. theres a thread on here somewhere that shows the difference for a v2

The one on the WRX is definitely a fake, or at least it ticks every box on the how to spot a fake guide. The other if it is a copy, is a fairly good copy as the only give away as you've noticed is the holographic lettering (Hoping it's just the lighting and it's actually holographic), unless I'm just blind for spotting a fake.

If I do remove it, it will only be if I Purchase a new genuine one. I just don't want to fork out if it's not going to have the sound I'm looking for. I might see if I can record the one on the WRX tonight so you know what sound I am after.

In the link below this is what the SSQV on the STI sounds like at low revs (Doesn't have the flutter at the end though), and then goes to the distinctive SSQV chirp at higher revs it's just not that loud. (Much like the video it's very sensitive to throttle response i.e. the second you touch the gas it stops making any sound, which I guess is what you want to quickly build pressure in the system again).

What he said!

Just bin it and put the original back on.
It will drive better, won't cause bore wash or make you look like a plank.
