Smile Returning to the Scoobynet fold!

I was previously a member on here under a different username but I cannot remember what that was or the password as it was a good few years ago.

At the time I owned a red classic on a 93 plate with a Tommy Kiara bodykit and I am from the Halifax area of West Yorkshire......Shelf to be precise.

After giving up my Subaru a few years ago in an attempt to stick to sensible motoring which led me to a Toyota Celica 1.8 vvti (Boring) I am now at a point where I have enough coin to get myself back behind the wheel of a Subaru and I have one I am going to see this weekend.

It's a black 2006 2.5 Impreza Wrx with the gold wheels and currently belongs to my girlfriends dads best mate and he has given me his asking price for it.

It has 99,000 on the clock and he bought it with a overheating issue and has since had the engine out, stripped it down, replaced the cam belt and also replaced the clutch.

He comes from a family of mechanics so I trust his work all day long and he also has some involvement in rallying as a hobby.

Is there anything I should be looking out for in particular when I go to view it this weekend?

I am also wondering what my best approach is in terms of insurance quotes should I decide I like what I see.

I was considering having a tracker fitted but not sure of the impact this will have on an insurance premium and the car will be garaged overnight anyway with another car parked in front of the garage door so there is no way out for it without a lot of effort.

If anybody has any words of wisdom they can impart on me please feel free.

I look forward to getting back within the Subaru owners circle very soon.

Thanks for reading

Dave

Mate, have a look at some of the most popular threads at the moment, basically
kids in the playground.

That said there is some useful info floating around and some very knowledgeable
members but sadly they are getting fewer.

Good luck.

Uprated head gasket & forged pistons would need to be done if I were to buy one. Do you know what sort of rebuild he did? Apart from that they ain't a bad car really with plenty of torque being a 2.5

Im not overly sure how far I intend to go on the mods to be honest. Cosmetically Id like to powder coat the gold alloys black and switch the low spoiler it currently has for a higher level one and get it looking the way I want it kinda subtle and stealthy then moving on to the performance itd be a dump valve probably as im pretty sure it doesnt have one currently, uprated air filter no doubt. The exhaust already has a pro drive back box but I may go turbo back and quite possibly the handling. Not sure whether to go so far as messing with the engine it all equates to a much higher insurance premium so I need to weigh that up given it will be my daily drive but then again I need some insurance quotes. Ive seen Garys name banded about in favourable terms so I may well contact him and see what he can do for me price wise when Ive found the car I want.
