Hi,


Pretty much ever last Impreza I see has a large 4"+ single exhaust.
Why do I never see any original classic twin exhaust back boxes like this:

Why is the single preferred over the twin?

1. Performance: More BHP?
2. Acoustics: The sound that is produced is much burblier? (I know that's not a word)
3. Aesthetics: People think a single 4"+ exhaust simply looks better?

My uncle, who used to be involved in the WRC back in the 90's took one look at my classic last year and whinged about the single 4" "chav" exhaust...and the bubbly arches (now rectified).
He's very much a purist...any alloys on an Impreza that are not gold in colour is also a sacrilege


I am upgrading the exhaust in a few weeks as my current one is loud and rusting...the H&S one has been recommended...but I am also considered the original twin exhaust.

They don't sound anywhere near as good, the original two pipe exhaust weighs a lot compared to the 4 inchers you see, and some would argue the single pipe looks better.

Thanks for the response. Tbh I have never seen an Impreza with a twin exhaust, let alone heard one.
I also got told today that the primary reason is performance.

I put a Cobra twin pipe on my classic, it did look good but it lasted about a 10 days on the car as it was so loud i took it off. Now got a Miltek on and i prefer both the looks and the quieter sound.

I've got that Japspeed twin exhaust fitted to my Impreza at the moment (fitted by previous owner). It's not excessively loud - slightly louder than standard, and you know it's an Impreza from the noise, but it's not too intrusive, and certainly a lot quieter than most Impreza's that I see/hear!

The only reason I don't like the twin exhaust is because it doesn't go right with the car for me, just looks like it belongs on an old BMW or something.

Best looking exhaust tip is classic Sti single tip, not too bit.

I recently bought this from 'night_51' on here, to replace it with as I've never been keen on the styling of it either:



I think it might be a Mongoose exhaust, as it looks very similar:



Just need to get round to fitting it now!
