I almost saw similar, I could smell petrol for a while, but a check showed nothing.

Then, coming home from town, it suddenly got eye-watering. I was 100m from home so drove up the drive and popped the bonnet.

The main fuel pipe that runs across the front bulkhead was split and fuel was p*ssing out across the engine, and red-hot exhaust and turbo

I quickly switched off, waiting for the "Whumpf!!" that would signal the end of my car...but it never came.

ALL fuel pipes now replaced with R9 rated stuff, and stainless clamps.

i actually bought a 2nd had good one, cold galved it and went to fit it.. took the plastic covers off under the wheel arch and the current filler pipe was in excellent condition!. i was amazed. wiped of some dry mud dust etc and had a good feel n poke about. no holes or rust. cold galved it anyway and reassembled. got a spare one now... i have been working on the rear arches and at the moment the inner arch on both sides are open a bit as ive not closed all the gaps between the inner and outer skin.
