Default Sports Cats

Hi there,

Been a long time lurker of this forum and finally decided to register.

Recently i've been doing allot of looking into sports cats for my Bugeye WRX as the MOT has expired and i don't have the luxury of a "friendly" MOT station (they'll ignore the decat but not the emissions).

With Japspeed telling me they've had a manufacturing error setting them back and cant give me a estimated time they'll have them back in stock, and everywhere else being crazy money, i've decided to cut a section out of my decat and weld in a 200 cell 3" kit piece (ebay link). Please let me know if you think this is a terrible idea?

My main question here is what sports cats do you guys run (if any, i imagine most are running decats)? I wasn't able to find a large range of them (just japspeed, cobra, milltek (2.75" only) and afterburner) and what bore? I ask about bore as i've read here that the 3" system on my car is a bit overkill (fitted by previous owner) for a 2.0 T.

Cheers!
Matt

Hi, I'm running a prodrive cat (down pipe) on my blobeye sti, it's running around 440bhp and goes through mot fine, there's usually loads on eBay at a decent price. After I fitted it and had it mapped it didn't really give anymore bhp but loads more torque.

Hi there, 440bhp must go well! I've had a look at the prodrive cats theres one on ebay for £150, what i couldn't work out is what extra peice i'd then need as that cat looks about 1/3 - 1/2 the length of my decat, plus mate it up to my 3" system? Cheers

Your decat pipe probably replaces both cats, if you were to go for the prodrive cat you'd then need to buy the next section which joins to the middle box/pipe. That next section after your downpipe is a cat aswell but you can just buy a pipe and decat that bit. Have a look on the Scoobyworld website at the exhausts and you'll see what I mean and you'll see that little decat section.

Hayward & Scott a little out of my price range but their stuff looks good. Cobra also looks good and glad to hear the single 100 cell passes MOTs, but again expensive, the afterburner items look alright and i was talking to a guy from scoobyworld, he said their afterburner range is made by Hayward & Scott. Interesting if so, considering the afterburner sports cat is significantly less expensive. Peakie - thanks for that i understand better now, i incorrectly thought the second cat would have been at the font end of the midpipe, but i've never seen a standard setup as i bought mine with the exhaust fitted. Thanks for your advice!

If fitting a prodrive sports cat to a 2001-2005 car you will need a 2nd decat pipe like this.
