Default ECUTEK tweak

Hi all,

back for some advice

My scooby has an ECUTEK map on it, done about 9months ago. I am fitting a new exhaust on it, and need the map tweaking. When I spoke to scooby clinic last week they said £200+VAT as it already had the ecutek license etc etc

I spoke with them today and now they are saying because they never put on the initial ecutek map on its going to cost £400+VAT.

Is it just me or is that abit steep and from what I have read on line a tweak to ECUTEK should cost in the region of £150-£250.

If I am totally wrong, and they are right re mapping it from scratch, what are my options? If I am going to have to pay that type of money who else could I take it to. what are my options? I am open to travelling just not to scotland lol (A F)

Should I just take it back to Corten Miller who initially mapped it? they quoted me £250 but they are nearly 3hrs away from me.

Id nearly be tempted to tell them to stick it up their ****, get ecutek taken off and go find a pro open source mapper where you are only paying for their time.

This is what they replied when I said it was a bit steep for a tweak

"its not a tweak its a full map we have to wipe teir map and start again so its not steep at all its a full map done on the dyno properly, then signed off on the road, all you have is a licence fee and a corton miller map which we cant tweak just as they cannot tweak ours"

I thought changes to hardware only needed tweaking rather than a full map.

Corten Millers site states £60 an hour for a tweak after hardware changes so I dont know where they got £250 from - I am guessing it doesnt take 4hours to do?

can some one explain what the process is coz tbh this is all new to me

also any recommendations - as if i am paying top dollar then i want the best, no less

thanks all

I cant speak for them but Id have thought turning a few error codes off (allowing for lack of cats) and little play with the timing then check afrs (a little more to it) but Id not think 4 hours.

Their position is completely normal and understandable and any other mapper will say the same.

If a mapper doesn't have the base file then they will be unable to perform a tweak and will need to start from scratch.

If you want to save money then your options are to find the original mapper or find someone who will do it cheaper. If the latter, you will probably have more luck with open-source.

Other good recognised mappers charge £350 for a map if you already have ecutek as they never mapped it in the 1st place, it is pretty much a full map from them.

there after they will charge around £150 for a tweak or small change.

I explained this to you yesterday via pm.

If you dont mind travelling then my advice is to get it down to RCM or Kamikaze Racing who both have dyno's.

Eh? They would just tweak the rom that is currently on the ecu for the new hardware fitted, they wouldn't need any other base map. Any mapper worth his salt would log first check rom, modify it then logiut on the road/rr.
I'd dare say most guys keep many many versions of rims for most models from previous jobs.

As above, will be locked to the mapper.

As far the old ecutek vs open source, you pays yer money you makes your choice.

But what I can say is that you get zero support from the software developer with open source, my hawk had to have a tweak done to the software itself to stop a fault code coming up because pat could just pick up the phone to ecutek to get dealer support. That tweak has now become part of the current version of ecutek software.

One for a recommendation that I have used are Powerstation in Gloucestershire.

They were very helpful and professional and would 100% use them again.

what if i wanted to map the car, fit the exhaust, and also buy front and rear anti roll bars and anti lift, pod guages and got them fit all at the same place. I know its going to depend on what brand i want etc. But what could i expect to pay for it all? As a package from 1 place and get it all done in 1 day.

has anyone done the same at all at once from 1 place?

Go on powerstations web site mate they got package prices on there thats them supplying and fitting so you could get a bit of a guide price from that and add a bit for the likes of gauges etc http://www.powerstation.org.uk/subaru_tuning.asp

Why would they give you a discount? when you go shopping and you get to the checkout with a trolley full do you ask for a discount because you have multiple items?

Welcome to the world of modifying an impreza, your long, expensive journey starts right here.

One of the best mappers in the UK is on your doorstep my advice would be to bite the bullet and let Pat at Scooby Clinic map it for you. Your also paying for dyno time in the price as well which will be the same where ever you go.

You will also have the benefit of the workshop facilities as mentioned by Shreksta, Speak to Adam as I'm sure they will do you a good deal if you have a few bits done at the same time, just ask nicely and I'm sure Kev and his boys will look after you.

You may get it mapped elsewhere cheaper using open source but if it goes **** up it'll cost way more in the long run.

Whilst any EcuTek tuner can take advantage of a licence thats been put on the ecu by another tuner they cannot read or see the map unless its "theirs", so its not a tweak unless you go back to the original tuner, it has to be mapped from scratch again
