I'm looking to purchase a track day helmet.

Been looking around but unsure what to purchase for example, new/pre-worn, full face/open face or go for a cheaper/medium range price band.

Any help or recommendations welcome.

Always buy new,
I would strongly recommend and open face, they are very comfortable with great vision for track days.
Your only in Wigan so less than an hour away from Wrexham, so go to demon tweaks and try some on to get a size that is comfortable and most importantly fits correctly. Tweaks have one of the best ranges of helmets I've seen
I wouldn't buy one of those cheap omp open face helmets they sit awful on your head, very high up.

Superb entry level trackday helmet, great fit and great value. I have one of these, they are very popular amongst the mlr and 22b lads at the sprints too.
Plus it also gives you the option to fit pegs and attach a HANS device should you want to

I've got a cheap-*** OMP open face job. Comfy enough for 20min sessions, and with any luck I'll never get to find out how effective it is in a crash...

If I were buying again, I'd probably spend a few more quid - it is my head after all.

The only argument for a full face helmet is if you'd like the opportunity to go for rides in open top cars, as the TDO's don't allow open facers with no roof. If those occasions are few and far between, renting one from the organiser would be sufficient I guess.

Take a look in your local motorcycle shops. you can get some cheap deals on last years stock.
I personally use a full face helmet but it is an old helmet I used to wear on my motorbike.
that and I track an MX5 so it is nicer to have a full face on convertibles IMHO.

Don't buy a second hand helmet and buy the best one you can afford.

You won't grow another head if you bugger up the one you have.

I bought a decent AGV motorcycle full face helmet that has done excellent service.

If I was buying another I would still go full face but go for a snell approved motorsport job.

V2 and Headtec do decent items for a reasonable price, alternatively it's a trip to somewhere like demon tweeks. Always buy the one that fits rather than sticking to a brand or type.

One of my many crash helmets is a Shark Raw. has goggles and mouth cover if you want the storm trooper look or they can be removed to use as an open face.
Parts also removable so you can customise it

You do get some interesting looks wearing it on a motorbike so could give some pit lane kudos lol.

I would say take No compromise om your safety.
I would take an Arai gp5-k, gp6-s or a Bell racing helmet.

As others have said get a brand new one with British standard kite mark.

I'm a biker so use a shoei xr1100 it serves me well on track days too.

If I didn't have that I'd get an open face. Just make sure it's tight and pushes your cheeks and your head doesn't slide around inside. A good shop assistant will help

Also a biker with an XR1100.. Best lid I have ever had tbh.

I would suggest trying loads on. everyone's head shape is different. I personally cannot get on with Arai and AGV lids.
