Default 4 pot issue...again!

I have 4 pots on my x reg uk turbo.

Last year I bought a second hand set due to mine being done in. I bought new seals and s/s Pistons, New pagid discs and new pads.

All was fine however recently when braking at slow speed it feels like my brakes going on and off as if there's a high spot and at say 70 my steering wheel shakes violently and I can feel it through the pedal. Sometimes it's worse than others

I have only done about 4k on these discs and am not heavy on the brakes.

Is there anything other than warped discs that can be causing the issue?

Thanks

Dave

Faulty ABS?
Wheel balancing?

It only happens when braking and as I said its sometimes worse than others although it has got a lot worse. I am going to take the wheels off and see if I can see anything. Would a sticky piston cause this?

Abs is a thought

HI
Yes a sticky piston would cause the brakes to stay on slightly , heating the discs up when you drive around , over heating the discs constantly can warp them , which would mean to fix them they would need a skim , or changing.
When you fitted the pistons did you thoroughly clean the inside of the caliper bore to remove all rust , if not , they will start sticking again even after fitting stainless steel pistons

Hi,

thanks for that. I did clean all the rust out I think. Can you give me a price on new discs and pads. The cars running about 270bhp just road use.

Looks like I'll be stripping the brakes down yet again

Might also be a deposit on the disc?

A couple of things.....

Are discs of good oem quality or cheaper pattern variety? Do you know if you sit with foot on brake pedal after a drive at junctions?

I'm so conscious of that now, in any car I drive. Makes perfect sense.

As regards the ops issues, to my understanding, if the calipers have seized causing the discs to over heat and warp, they are screwed.

True, but we read a lot about warped discs, yet they are actually a lot rarer than you'd think.

Might be my imagination but today when the car had sat for 8 hours at work and I drove off there didn't seem to be an issue however after about 5 minutes they were doing the same thing?

It pagid discs!

Yeah I do that at junctions! Mmm could be the issue

In that case it could well be pad deposits , if the calipers are dragging the pads will get hotter than they should and leave deposits on the discs , driving again when its cooled down will clean the deposits off , until they get hot and do it again.
The longer you drive like this , the more chance the discs have of warping , so if you get the calipers done asap the discs and pads should be ok
Cheers Ian

Thanks for the input. I now have a job for the weekend and hope the discs aren't goosed.

Thanks again
