Default Impreza wrx newage intercooler

I'm in the process of upgrading my standard intercooler on my 1998 Impreza, I posted a wanted add and searched the net, but they all looked rough.

So I was wondering could I get one refurbed? Is there a company that refurbs these? I can buy one new but that will be over £200

I done this. Got one from eBay. It had a a few rows of bent fin's and didn't look the best. I just sat with a mini screw driver and carefully straightened them out. I then gave it a couple of coats of silver paint.

Worth thinking about if you can get one cheap enough. Think mine was 30 quid with the undertry( only used the rubber and modded my original undertry)

I've got one here, didn't realise they had an undertray. But as you said its battered.

I did think of straightening the fins and a light resray but I thought that may clog up the fins and undo all the work of fitting a bigger intercooler

Lightly spray it and it'll be fine. Mine certainly is. I widened the classic undertry to the size of the bigger intercooler and used the rubber off the new age. No point with the bigger cooler if you don't do something with the tray.

Ah I see! I'm still not sure if my intercooler is bigger than a standard wrx with it being the RA so I was thinking of going for the STI one. Don't suppose you have got measurements of the newage wrx and your standard one please? Also with mine being a V3 it has the metal pipe for the Recirc dumpvalve coming off the ic instead of a direct fit as the newage do so I would have to mod that as well.

Yea sure will measure it for you later. I think the wrx intercooler will be abit bigger. But doesn't need anything modifying to fit.

And yes if you want to use the same dump valve you will need an adaptor there about £25+ on gay bay

You do need to bend the near side bracket slightly and alter one of the bolt holes to the engine.

I have a WRX RA so was going to swap mine for a STI one if that's bigger than the one I have on.

Nice one banny. I don't think I will be heading north of 350bhp any time soon so will keep what I have then cheers
If I do decide to go bigger power then the intercooler is the least of my worries I recon!
