Cool

Hey matt,

Just went outside and got this info from under my hood in engine bay....hope it helps:

model: GDBA4EH option: GL C

VIN: GH - GDB GDB * * * * * * <----- 6 digits

Engine: EJ20

Sorry, that is all I could pull from it, not sure if it is what you are asking for.

Good luck, any more info you may need let me know
Cheers,
Ray

Just reread your post, sorry I don't know what it all means, only that my car is a JDM fwiw, sorry

Question

Chaps,

Having insurance troubles and need to decode the VIN for a new STi Type UK. I have got a few VIN's and I need to know what the following part of the model code means:

STi Type UK:

JF1GBDKH32GOxxxxx (where xxxxx is the car serial number)

STi JDM:

JF1GDBA4EH

It looks like the Type UK specifically is KH32GO and the STi JDM is A4EH. Does anybody know what these mean?

Also, are there any STi 7 owners (Type UK or JDM) who could post this part of their VIN along with which model you have and where you got it from (i.e. Euro STi import, UK dealer model, JDM import etc...).

I've got to do battle with my insurance co. tomorrow as they are trying to tell me that my Euro import STi Type UK is a Jap Import but they want the VIN number before making their final decision.

Any help most appreciated,

Cheers,

Matt

BTW, I've already checked the SIDC FAQ and that only lists the model codes up to 2000. A few kind souls have already given me their VIN's so I am pretty certain you can tell the model type from this (i.e. Type UK vs. JDM) but would like as much ammo as possible.

Deep, Razor, JGriff, Scott Mennace, Jonno, can you help?.....

Thanks once again,

Matt

P.S. Mail me if you don't want to post....

Did you not get a certificate of conformity with the car....this should be enough for the ins. company.

Question

Deep,

The Applied Model code is the bit I am interested in - they all have GDB but it's the next bit that seems important, e.g. the JDM STi seems to have GDBA4EH, and the Type UK seems to have KH32GO.

Is this the same on yours? Yours is a JDM STi right? Where did you get it from?

Cheers,

Matt

The 'EH' in JDM cars refers to the various option packs the car has (e.g. front Suretrac, soundsystems).
Cannot help with the export spec codes, maybe sth to do with equipment spec.

Yes they do, but those chassis codes do signify specs of cars (equipment, homologation etc). How to decode all of them I do not know.

Calm down clam down - I'll be there on Sat. Jonno, YHM and Ian, I'll give you a shout later today.

The car won't be ready this weekend so I'll probably be there earlier than I might have been. Will let ya know,

Matt,

Just a thought. Have you phoned litchfield imports, warrenders etc to ask them some partial VIN numbers of the cars they have in stock.
