Default Jerking(subaru forester)

subaru forester 2.0 XT
2004

So i bought my first subaru 2 days ago and out of nowhere the engine has started to jerk every 10 seconds when idle.
anyone have an idea why?

i first thought it was misfire so damp/worn spark plugs but after looking at some forums it has worried me that you get the same jerking from a broken piston ring(i hope not!) its a sad way to lose a car i just bought and not have the funds to fix it so early.
