Default Love lost for the WRX

Hi guys

As above really...seem to have lost a lot of love/interest in the wrx after being tainted by a german rival... I have the parts to upgrade the subaru to 300bhp+/- which will be the equivalent power of the BMW I have in mind...is it worth continuing down the path of modifying (does it really 'change' the car as much as people say) or do I jack it all in and go german....other option I'm considering is moving to an STI and starting again

Been looking more towards the 335i, all the benefits of an M3 without the cost and still forced induction so can be tuned.

I would be looking to put about £4k with whatever I get from the scoob towards a beemer or I can go £1500 to continue modifying the wrx :-s

Haha no not about that at all, just wanted to see what was about so went and looked at a 335 then got back in the wrx and felt a bit disappointed however I have a friend who just spent £14k on an X5 that is the full package and is having nothing but issues with it including electrical parking brake fail...

If you're running standard power on a WRX I'm not really surprised that you're sick of it, they are a pretty capable car when tuned, but without spending quite a lot of £ on performance and handling mods, not exactly in an M3's league.

Get yourself an STi, decat and remap and you're nearly there (against the E46) think you'd still need deep pockets to fettle an STi to E90 levels however.

the beemer can hit 380-400bhp with pipes and a remap but like over powering the wrx, reliability worries come into play at that point. I can always drop the standard cd player for a touch screen double din and that should cover the gadget aspect... I think I might look at a dccd widetrack.

Should I still modify the wrx for the time being or stop now?

it sounds to me like you have already made up your mind I would stop now and save money for the sti I have a bug wagon which I bought coz I really like the look of and will be modding it to well above standard sti but the cost does not put me off if you are on a budget the only sensible thing is to get an sti

6 speed box
brembos front and back
better internals
and higher power from standard just to name a few

Excuse my lack of knowledge but what difference is a widetrack? I know what dccd does and that would be a must have but is widetrack that important?

I have a prodrive sports cat and centre decat to be fitted to my wrx, could I keep it and fit it to an sti or are the pipe ends different?

BMW is a more comfortable car but as others have said it is a bit boring. Fine if you are trundling around the country all the time I guess. I did consider one but I like the AWD too much

Although sounds like they may be making a 4WD...

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/ne...onfirms-m5-4wd

I recently got a replacement back box (£100 2nd hand), Powercross panel filter (£35 I think) and a remap £420 and I now have 272bhp and its a different car. Much more smoother and so much faster

The wagon is a guilty pleasure of mine but I have no use for such a work horse so would be wasted

I can't think of a more boring German sh1tbox than a modern 3 series, being part wog I have had many friends and relatives that have had 3 /5 series BMW's over my 30 odd year driving career and the only thing I can say about them is you better have deep pockets if you want to own one, in general my experience of them has been nice drive in the dry and if you like posing, but if you want to bash the **** out of one then again deep pockets required or buy one already done like the M3 in the for sale section for ish £6k, but the lad wanting to swap it for an STI tells you all you need to know.

Mildly tuned WRX to circa 300/330 bhp is a fantastic car, with supporting mods it really does take some beating ( despite what the haters say) it's an extremely capable car with the right mods, I'll give you my personal guarantee that if you can drive there is next to **** all that will leave you for dead in the real world and that includes other more powerful Subarus and Evo's, they might spank you at the Ring or on UK tracks but they will be going nowhere on the road in the real world.
