Default V4 STI speedo problems

Wondering if anyone else has had some issues with their speedo?

The speedo sticks to 60mph as soon as I start driving it. I could literally be pulling away after just turning the car on and it shoots up. After driving for a while if I tap the speedo it will sometimes go down to the correct speed (referenced from power fc). Sometimes it will not go down after tapping, it's very intermittent.

I think the issue lies within the clocks. When I put the lights on the speedo lights don't light up around 6 7 8k rpm until I tap the dash also. Same with the seatbelt light too.

Has anyone sent their speedo away for repair before and if so where?

I looked online at some American forums and some people have suffered the same issues and carried out an earth mod which includes running a wire from one earth point to another on the back of the clocks which I have already done to no avail. Any ideas ?

Well the sensor has been changed in the gearbox for a new one and made no odds. The problem lies within the clocks I think due to other faults as I said above like the lighting not working until tapped and the seatbelt light not illuminating.

Firstly make sure your speedo cable is not broken and if that's ok make sure it's secure to the back of the pod. If your car has had an electronic KMH/MPH converter fitted check the connections, then move onto the circuit board and tighten every screw that's on there and check for broken circuits. If all that fails you may need to get another speedo pod, had to do the same myself on a V3.

Its the speedo converter. Had this exact issue. Got one off ebay for about £35 and its fixed the problem. My one had corrosion all over the wiring. New one is perfect and only 1mph out compared to GPS
