Automaticising
I'm in the fortunate position of commuting to work on bicycle so my 2001 bugeye WRX is really just there as a backup car for when the family D5 volvo plays up (as it currently is due to DPF, EGR and ABS issues all at once!)
I really like the WRX but I've recently started to suffer from Metatasialgia (arthritis) in the ***** of my feet and so driving a manual is becoming a right pain.
So questions - what would it take to auto my bugeye - I'm presuming the cheap n/a impreza auto gearboxes wouldn't be up to the turbo power longterm...
What alternatives are there in terms of marques / models with similar performance in this pricerange. I'd still be after a wagon bodytype.
Any advice welcome - cheers,

Subaru Legacy GTB - twin turbos, Bilstein factory suspension.
Legacy GT- Twinscroll turbo.
legacy Blitzen
Legacy S402 - ££££
To switch yours to auto you would take an inordinate amount of work,
Auto box to match your diff, possibly a propshaft.
Auto box ECU and loom etc
Pedal box swap
Dash gauge swap so you can see which gear is selected - loom & electrics
Different console/to suit gear selector
And you would have to factor in the time costs in swapping all this out, and hope that all the bits you get work correctly....then the deep joy of insuring your 'modified' vehicle....
Much better to sell yours and buy what you need
Other marques
Volvo 850T5?
Nissan Stagea?

Cheers for the reply.
Just a shame that Subaru seem to have abandoned Autos for the JDM on turbo imprezas after the Classic. A few of those around perhaps worth considering....
EDIT... Having searched it seems as though there were a few WRX (or better) bugeye wagons made with an autobox. If anyone knows of one please do let me know by PM .... Whether that is this week or 2016 may still be looking!

Hi there
As above doing the conversion from manual to 4EAT is not worth it,will cost you lot more than some cars
Not true there, you still can find some JDM WRX mostly wagon(saloon/sedan shape is rare, but you can find them) with 4EAT(automatic),I would choose JDM WRX 4EAT as they come as standard with sportshift option(tiptronic) and AVCS heads, they're making in standard form around 250bhp
I would have look on 20k version which is as WRX with 4EAT and in wagon shape,NB-R(bugeye) shape is saloon/sedan which has been available as 4EAT
Hope this help
Thanks,Jura
