Thumbs up Classic - complete cambelt kit

This was expensive (or a bargain compared with Subaru prices) but my local Subaru dealer was impressed with the contents and happy to fit it as long as I supplied.

The car is 15 years old so I reckoned it was worth biting the bullet and doing the lot at once.

No idea why you'd buy it at that price really, you could have got the full kit with a Gates belt for £177 from importcarparts.

I agree the price is expensive and I have a quote of £175 including waterpump from Aztec performance. I doubt Subaru dealer would fit non oem parts tho

I'd imagine the 'genuine subaru' belt is made by Gates anyway.

Bought because they know their Imprezas and all the parts are individually matched to the OEM supplier manufactured parts (NSK, NTN etc), apart from the cambelt which is the genuine article.

In the words of the dealer - 'they're exactly the same parts as we get from Subaru' (but at about half the price). They charged £200 to fit the lot which down south is keen from a Subaru dealer.

I guess on an older car its the price of peace of mind for me - dealer fit with exact match parts at a price I can live with as a one off.

I did a cambelt change on an Impreza the other day for someone and got the kit from ICP, the bearings were NSK too.

The RCM kit even says aftermarket/subaru. I'd imagine it's exactly the same kit as I bought but with subaru printed in the same belt.

£200 labour from main dealer doesn't sound too bad at all. I'm looking to get mine done in the near future and was toying with the idea of fitting it myself but I will probably get a garage to do it. Richard Henry's in Bradford has been recommended so I will most likely take it there if the price is ok
