Type r search, what should I expect for my money£££
Ive not long parted with my blob sti, I didn't gel with it and after previously owning two classics in the past this is the direction I now want to return to,
I'm specifically after a type r, I have a budget of around £8k,
The car will be used as a weekend toy and the odd occasional track day, I want something that is ideally sympathetically modified, what should I expect in return for my budget, prices seem to have gone up and everything I see seems overpriced, I may be expecting to much
Opinions please

Mileage a little high but this leaves room for modifying yourself?

8K should get you a very very nice car.
For that money I'd be looking for something with a forged motor (or at least a newage sti bottom end), decent brake and suspension setup and a very tidy body.
Max at hurst cars has a nice standard grey one for sale for under 6K so the other option is to by one like that and use the rest of your budget to put your own stamp on it.

Think this one is sold, sure I seen a post somewhere stating that they had bought it, mileage did put me off just because of what I was going to use it for

Rubbish ad but fairly decent car at a reasonable price.

You can either pay top dollar for a mint one or one that's cheaper but needs work done (car park dings, scratches etc), problem with this is that you have to negotiate the price to take this into account but they don't always want to drop the price.
I like the white one that's for sale on here but its about as far away from where I am as possible so impossible to view! lol.

There are Dyno print outs showing 300bhp / 270ftlb but from matching dates on invoices thats before the 18g TD05 went on along with V8 TMIC etc.
I'd estimate around 300-320.

This is why I was asking for power figures because although it looks like a fantastically well cared for car I personally would be worried about that amount of power on standard internals and box

It's a difficult one really as it's a stunning looking car, has nice miles and a fairly fresh paint job which all make it desirable. But the spec isn't that special and the fact it's got standard original engine and box doesn't make it a 8+ grand car imo.
I'd imagine someone out there will pay that for the car but I certainly wouldn't.
But then I don't think R's deserve the huge premium they demand over other models so what do I know.....

I paid 8k for my last off the line version 6 Type R Limited in January 2013.
Lovely car, no rust, 60ish thousand miles, forged 2.1 stroker, Simtek, exhaust system, recent brakes, coilovers, only blemish on the entire car is a single pin dent in the rear quarter and the usual stone chipped front bumper. Three owners from import in 2007.
If I was to put it on the market today I'd expect to at least get my money back on it. Prices are definitely creeping up.
Paul.

I had the same concerns when I was thinking about buying the car but upon inspection found the box to feel sound and the car to drive extremely well so went for it!
When I was buying the car the owner told me the person he bought it from had Andy Forrest map it at 360/360 but lost the dyno print out....
I've not advertised this as can't prove it, and would genuinely be surprised if its making that power; my old Z4M with 330bhp and 1600kg would have been extremely similar in a straight line....

Im in this same position, ive looked at a few Type Rs and the price does seem to have shot up, ive seen a few shabby ones and they wanted top dollar for them. What did you think of mine ?
