Default How much power can a bug wrx engine take?

Hi all after some advice: I am wondering how much power a bug wrx engine can take? I know the 5 speed boxes eat themselves around 330/350 but what is the engine actually good for if it was fitted with a 6 speed box and clutch?

Thanks in advance

It's one of those questions you can't really give a 100% correct answer to,as no two car's are the same. But as FT has said keep it around the 350bhp figure and it should stay in one piece.(Hopefully!!!).SJ.

As above, but don't go crying about it if a teenage engine pushing out 40% more power than the manufacturer intended it to produce shats itself!

Cheers all, Was just wondering if it was worth spending on adding the 6 speed without changing engine if I wanted to up the power. Now I know its not worth it

I will shortly be picking up an STI which is going to be my road toy. But I have a nice wagon too and would like to get a little more poke out of her, so will just fit the vf35 and pinks I have and get it mapped to around 330.

I was just wondering if I fitted a 6 speed to that would the wrx engine hold enough power to give my sti a run for its money.

Hi Craig

We are run 350bhp on the WRX engine, when we have lower compression on two pistons after we run for around 20k miles LPG,really depends,I know few guys running 400bhp now and still on the stock block and still on stock 5speed,but I know few guys which has broken engine under 400bhp

I don't think wagon will be faster than STI as above Dan said, you wagon is heavier and no AVCS

And if you will have soon STI saloon, keep wagon as is it,looks awesome and with few upgrades like VF35(although VF34 I would recommend) and pink injectors you will have fast enough wagon, just don't start chasing the numbers, its not worth it,just enjoy matey

Thanks,Jura

A piece of string is twice the length of the middle to the end.

Cheers fella, I have the vf35 and pinks so will just get that done i think and then keep the STI for the toy.

Did you have any luck with your parts guy at all?

My blob WRX lump shat its ringlands on at least 2 pistons at around the 340 mark.
