Aircon works on the pricniple of taking the moisture out of the air and freezing it, thus giving you very cold air. But on a day like today it will just feel cold as it was quite a "dry" day today, even so it should feel colder than the air coming into the car from the outside when your doing 70mph on the motorway etc

Aircon uses a coolant. A form of gas.
Take it to your Subaru dealer and they will re-gas (£120 ish) then check for leaks throughout the system. If the subaru dealer won't/can't do it then take it to a BMW dealer as they definetely will. - The reason I know??? Happened 2 months ago in my M3.
Hope this helps. Once done the aircon at full whack will be bitter cold and you can see your breath - sometimes make my girlfriends nipples go hard!! Really is a superb thing...!!

Go to an aircon specialist in the yellow pages, they will call out and do it where u live normally, i was quoted £120 from the dealer and 'no guarantees if the condenser was faulty' local guy re-gassed it and put die in to show of leaks if they occur - cost £67!!
