Default Should I Buy this JBL Showcar? Sti Content

Hi guys,

Martin here, last time I was on here a couple of years ago, I got some great advice regarding a subaru purchase and decided the time wasn't right. I've just bought a new Abarth 595 which is not as comfortable for my 6 foot 4 frame as I had hoped so it's up for sale.

I still really want an STI and have been looking at the one in the link below. As always, can I tap into your honest advice and expertise! From the photos the car looks mint which is a big attraction to me - has anyone on here any experience of the car?

Would it be easy to sell off the music equipment in the boot and fit a back seat to make it usable every day?

As I say, any advice appreciated - I can't actually move until I sell my own car (unless they give me a good trade in price).

Including the link would be good! http://www.sterlingperformance.co.uk...ts?make=SUBARU

Thanks in advance,

Martin

edited to include link - sorry guys. I don't mind the decals too much - I'd prefer the look of the car without them but they're not enough to put me off. Thanks for your input though powerwrx.

no disrespect mate but for that money you could buy a very nice spec c or something, and I think you will be asking for trouble.. as someone will want it without paying for it.

again though if its your thing then go for it, it does look a clean car

Thanks for the info mate. Random but does the steering wheel adjust for reach? In my current car it doesn't which has caused me issues with my seating position.

No it doesn't.

Also - that's very strong money, and I'd imagine it handles like sh!te with the added weight and on air ride. Low miles is good, but it's obviously barely been used so probably needs a thorough service.

Also, do make sure it actually is an STi. It's been debadged, but without pics of the engine bay it's hard to tell for sure.

Poke it with a stick and walk on by imho. All that money then more money on top to put it to how you want it and won't make all the difference back from the music.

Better cars can be had for less money imho

The decals on the right hand side are wrong, the big star should be on the left of the cluster.

Thanks guys - I know what you're saying regarding selling off the back seat equipment. What's drawing me to it is the low mileage and the fact it looks to be in mint condition.

Ideally, if I could secure a mint example with under 30k miles for similar money then I would seriously consider it. There's a guy who lives near me with a mint 55 plate sti in blue and every time I see it I tell myself I want one.

Edit - which year alloys the wheel to adjust for reach? I'll end up finding myself in the same position I'm in with my current car if I can't get comfortable.

I'm not keen on the 'hatchback' model (unsure of the official name for that model year). Thanks all for the replies - always very helpful.

Lot of money for the car.
Id put your money into a 05 widetrack STI.
That car looks ok from the outside but inside is Chavtastic 'in my opinion'.

I wouldn't have said it was **** but it is what it is. It's a show car for an audio manufacturer, not the average track/b road weapon.

An Abarth 595? Isn't that the £30k Fiat 500?!

£14k would get you a seriously awesome Impreza, not that heap in your link. As alluded to above, "show car" is eBay language for "pile of shîte".

I think it would help if we knew what you're after?

For example if you're after raw performance then a Spec C or RA would be the best things to go for by a mile.

Very nice indeed - is the former owner on here? I've heard about the forged engines - what does this mean exactly? Are there any issues I need to be concerned about with this model and (I know what I sound like here) does the wheel adjust for rake on this model?

What a car, it's madness to even consider the car in the op after this.

The engine issues are with the 2.5, this is a jdm(Japanese domestic model) with a 2.0 twinscoll turbo, no problems with this car.

Tarquin Crispin old car, from what I gathered it has been properly pampered most of its life, so you wont find a better example of a JDM hawk STi. The previous owner px/ed it at that garage for a Range Rover sport.

The JDM model has a 2 litre engine with twin scroll turbo opposed to the weaker 2.5 litre engine the UK hawks had. Shaun on here is running 475bhp on standard engine internals on a JDM STi so the engine will take good power!!

As far as im aware(from my previous hawk sti) you can adjust the steering wheel up and down, so not sure if this would help due to your size???

That's a nice hawk. Another thing to consider is even after you've sold all the stereo equipment, you'd need to replace most of the interior and door cards, and remove the half ton of sound deadening from the panels. Walk on by and keep looking. The only way to know if you'll fit in one is to test drive a car you like.

Thanks guys - I'll probably have to sit in one - the wee abarth I have is great but with no reach adjustment on the wheel, it's difficult to sit comfortably unfortunately.

Yeah but the seat does go back and down, I'm 5'11" and have the seat all the way back and can only completely stretch my legs out under the pedals, I sure as hell don't know how fudd gets his extra 6 inches comfortable.

You should see the size of Shreksta I don't know how he even gets in an Impreza, he's fahookin huge and could probably reach the pedals from the back seat.
