Just a general comment before you get ridiculed for your continuing car search?!?!

TBH for the money it ticks all your boxes, and you could get the body work fixed up to how you want it and still have spare money.

Dont see any like this so it will be a long wait for another one...

I know of a nice clean car with 0 mileage, but you'll need a time machine.

I believe the low spoiler was an option in japan? It also states as much in the advert?

"Only run on Tesco's 99" - didn't think they had that in Japan, or in this country until a few years ago.

"Since owning it I discovered the clock runs up in Kilometres" - bet that was a bit of a bummer, finding out that it wasn't doing 40mpg.

"car has full history, cambelt/plugs/filters/ gearbox oil and diff oil all changed using subaru genuine parts when clocks read 64k" - so what happened between the 'clock converted at 40K' and 64K. Have we got a service after 24k miles or kilometres (either of which aren't of course helpful) ?

'280 bhp but feels like 300 out of the box' - must be wonderful to be able to feel the difference in acceleration and calculate the power increase required to provide that.

Stupid comparisons with 'chocolate piston' cars ie. the 2.5.
Might as well compare it to a Rover 200 or Reliant Robin, since they're just as much different.

Personally I wouldn't even bother asking the seller a question.

your first fuel related question is irrelevant as in japan the fuel is above 99 ron anyway, i think he means only run on 99 ron since importing

Therein lies the answer.

Fwiw there's NO mention of a remap upon being imported, so unless it was running on 99 over there it's running fuel below what it was mapped for.

And of course he's done exactly what he wants with the ad viz a viz your good self - he's got you ASSUMING it's been run on "99 ron since importing".

a) he hasn't said 'Momentum';
b) he hasn't said when the car was imported, so no-one can say if the statement is true or not. It wouldn't be if it was imported in 2000 eg.

I personally wouldn't recommend anyone to consider the car.
The guy is bulling it up by putting other (incompatible) subarus down and does it with an ad that's full of holes and inconsistencies.

Nit picking perhaps? Most Subaru ads don't tend to even mention which fuel is used, and instead make outrageous boasts of unlikely power.
As for the remap comments, why would a car run on 99 in Japan need a remap if it uses 99 here? Pre V5 (iirc could be V6) classics couldn't be mapped on their original ECU.

Sorry Alex, I dont know if you are trying to pick arguments or if you honestly dont know, but why would it NOT need a remap?

Jap fuel is 103-105ron, so you couldnt run it on 99ron over here without issues....

Its no different to me running my scoob which is mapped for meth on just 99 ron, or using the 99ron map and putting 93 ron in it... It will never end well!

Jesus you guys are picky. I had a long chat with the owner yesterday. Seems very genuine.

The low level spoiler was an option from the factory. He also added the v5 front bumper as he preferred the look. Still has original though and the wheels.

Hopefully, if still for sale next weekend, I'll be going to view it. A couple if car park dinks will cost next to nothing to have removed.

I know they have a higher RON rating than our standard, but always thought that was the point in us using Shell/Tesco 99.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_...nal_variations

"Japan: Since 1986, "regular" is >=89 RON, and "high octane" is >=96 RON, lead free. Those values are defined in standard JIS K 2202. Sometimes "high octane" is sold under different names, such as "F-1"."

An old thread from here...
https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...nese-fuel.html

And a thread from pistonheads also.
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...++Fuel+Effects

Perhaps I've always assumed wrong. This would mean every pre V5 JDM would have had to have a new ECU once imported.

again, the thread is turning into a slanging match for you all to hail abuse at me, the car doesn't tick all the boxes for me if it did I would buy it.. again ive not said I am looking for a specific year or model of car but as it happens I did find a perfect 18 year old car the last time I was looking so they are out there and your time machine comment bustaMOVE just isn't funny or irrelevant pretty pointless infact.

everyone jumps on the bandwagon once the slating starts but yet again this is a 'general' thread in the 'general' section simply pointing out that there is a very nice v4 sti for sale just incase anyone is looking for such a car (and I know one or two are) its not a thread asking for anyones opinion on wether I should buy it, I don't want it simple as that..so no further comments highlighting the fact that the car is what im looking for are needed.. I don't want to buy it,the car isn't what I want is that so hard to understand.. plainly with some of you lot it is.

Have you not grasped it yet?
