Why is the Subaru scene full of scammers?
It occurred to me this morning that having been involved in the AMG scene for 2 years now I have not come across anyone scamming anyone. No dodgy engine tuners and builders, no one selling fake parts on Ebay, no mint second-hand engines and gearboxes that turn out to be turds.
It's not like there isn't a big tuning and modding scene, because there is especially in the US and Germany.
It got me wondering why all I seem to read on here these days is about people being scammed and conned.... what is it about the Subaru scene that engenders this or is it prevalent to all marques and the AMG boys have just been lucky so far.

Yep, any old **** in their free council house can afford a scooby these days....
How many AMG owners sit around in car parks doing donuts and arguing about whose car has a higher top speed and competing in the red light rally?
It is an intelligence based thing IMO, to be able to afford an AMG you need to have half a brain to get a decent job and pay to run it etc, where as you can work in tesco and afford to buy and run a crappy old subaru....
There is a guy up the road from me who has a ****ty old classic with a show-off-valve and a dustbin exhaust who keeps telling me his car is faster than mine and will race me next time he sees me out....
His car is the WRX with 227hp (when new), yet my car is 535hp and if you have half a brain you can just tell by looking at it its not a standard car... This is the calibre of the majority of subaru owners now, luckily most of them arent intelligent enough to register on here. They just about figure out how to use facebook on their free benefit bought smartphones and superfast broadband....

The internet brought the scammers, or made it easier to scam, and the Subaru scene is full of the Swap Shop Scallies, that instead of using their two brain cells to get a job, they rub them together between the smoke of their skunkweed refer and come up with ways to con.
Years ago before EVERYONE had the internet within fingers reach, 'scamming' was a lot less (in the VW scene anyway) because transactions where done more in person, now all and sundry find ways of stealing through the anonymous interweb.
But you are right, the Facebook forums are constantly full of people being scammed..lately we've had the Gaz Mac, the PMB 'specialist' aka Turbomonkeys, SAKASWORLD, Kylin Performance UK, AS Breakers, Mark Schmitt..its like everyday there is a new scam, a new person getting done. I even noticed a new one on eBay today called James Guest selling the lethal fake BLOX wheel nuts to Subaru owners.
Sad state of affairs.

as above, imprezas cover a broad range from £1000 to 30k and beyond.
some you can pick up and run for peanuts and others not, you only have to read the posts from some on here and realise the are basically illiterate (jayjay100 springs to mind).
the bottom end of the users are usually the scammers and scam other people of similar intelligence in my opinion.
if you have an ounce of intelligence you dont send paypal gifts to three post users.
then there are the stories of wrxs spinning 180 degrees on launch and mpg improving arbs....
some you can pick up and run for peanuts and others not, you only have to read the posts from some on here and realise the are basically illiterate (jayjay100 springs to mind).

A crap box impreza! Doesn't look like anything unless you can spot the small things that give the game away. Anyone in to their cars will be able to tell it isn't 227hp....

pretty much agree, i bought some rcm headers amongst other things lately and i made the trip to pick them up rather than go the paypal route as its not worth the risk to me even though the guy was a long standing member with decent feedback.
sad as it is a would'nt trust anyone i dont know on here.

Yeah they were in the vauxhall world too and it's very annoying , got stung for about 65 quid few years ago learnt by mistake

firtsly a phone no. means nothing and how do you know the address is correct??
number 3 is the only choice to avoid being scammed.
rule no 1. dont trust anyone you dont know
rule no 2. go and collect it and inspect the item

You can search the electoral role quite easy , so then if you can't get your money back you can at least file small claims

Plus there are tones more parts for impreza, as they get broke like I've never seen before. It's insane, so cheap parts are easy to come by. Means you get tones of losses buying and stripping any old impreza's trying to make some easy money.
Bought a rear bumper for my impreza off gay bay, guy sounded new to breaking, but have close up pictures to show no damage, then sent bumper wrapped in few bin liners lol as you can imagine it was wrecked when it got here. Got full refund and binned it :-)

I thought you could trust the traders on here but I was wrong , seems there is just free reign on other forums they mess up its instant ban / removal

small claims court not only cost money but generally dont achieve much as the scammer will no doubt be jobless and skint and not bother with smaller items just let then get away with it!!! thats why the exist

Well had a bad experience on a vectra forum posted up about seller and had local people offer to go round and collect item for me
Small claims is 35 quid and normally a scare monger tactic ,
Yes jay it might be the same person , tho I threatened small claims and soon as the neg feedback went on he was moaning
