Have i been ripped off?
I purchased some oil, Castrol GTX 10w40 from carparts4less
Picture displayed shows
What i received was this
As you can see on the front it says for Gasoline and diesel and lpg engines, well i've never run my car on cheap USA fuel. So does this mean the oil is for US market not UK, and is somehow different?

Castrol, along with other oil brands are constantly changing their oils...well their branding to be more precise.
As a garage, its a nightmare: We stock Castrol oils, and use the most suitable oil for each vehicle based on manufacturer specifications, in principal it sounds easy, but it isn't.
For example: Edge 5w-40 C3...Magnatec 5w-40 C3....its the SAME OIL (both full synthetic, both comply to the same vehicle manufacturer specs and have the exact same properties on the data sheets). Just with a different label. I defy anyone to tell me I'm wrong, the difference is the price tag and the label.
Anyhoo, Magnatec 10w-40....old school semi-synthetic oil. My Classic MY97 scoob ran it...oil changed every six months, I wouldn't leave it in there any longer IMO.
Edit: also GTX 10w-40 vs Magnatec 10w-40...both almost the same, but they differ very slightly in physical composistion, and when I say slight I do mean slight. But GTX has very few manufacturer approvals. I would go out on a limb and say Magnatec 10w-40 is based on GTX 10w-40 with a little added magic (viscosity improver? ).

When I got my car it used 1ltr of oil per month, now I have 50% compression loss on 1 cylinder and 20% loss on another it uses around 1ltr per 6 months.
I kinda presumed fuel passing the rings was topping it up for me but I get no suspect smells or smoke.

The main reason i use Castrol magnetic is i change my oil every roughly every 2000 miles, as i reckon more frequent oil changes are best. Millers 10w-40 costs double of magnetic, so i'd be moe inclined to leave it in longer, so the question is which is best 2 oil changes of gtx in 4000 miles or one of Millers Oils CFS 10w-40?

Castrol edge 5-40 Fully synthetic is £36 at ASDA lol its the same price as the Magnatec 10w-40 so still cheap and a goodone to use for the price. u can still change the oil every 2000 miles like you do but with a better oil. my manual recommends 5-30 for my Subaru so 5-40 should be good

mines a 94 wrx its been running on 5-40 for a wile now last 5 oil changes. people do tend to think its thin but works good for me. I am changing to 10-50 after the map but trying to find out if that will effect my engine in anyway because I been using 5-40 for so long..
