Default Models help

Not those kind of models you bunch of testosterone filled loons!

I am utterly confused by the seemingly endless versions of wrx sti models and scooby slang.
Obviously this is not helping when I am browsing to find something to spend my hard earned cash on.

Now I apparently have a 2011 wrx sti type uk.
But is this what's classed as new age, my11 or another scooby pseudonym?
Thanks in advance

Hi welcome to our crazy world!

Firstly you don't say if it's a hatch or a saloon, not that I makes any real difference other than the amount of negative comment you may receive

I understand your confusion, for me and I am probably wrong, I look for the MY tag 2008 or 2011.

The main thing is newage to MY2014 have the same basic 2.5 engine so some mods are/may be the same. But all negative comments about chocolate engines will be the same.

Between the MY11 and MY08 there are many common extras for the hatch but not the saloon. Obviously things like the lower front grilles are different between the 2 model years because of the front bumper shape change

Then for MY11 you have the saloon and hatch body difference, but mechanically they are the basically the same.

Suspension wise the MY11 is different to the MY08

Your best approach is to ask questions relative to the specific mods you want to do. There are many good suppliers on here who will help and many really good members, to name a couple, look up Don Clark who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things Subaru and a stunning MY11 saloon and Rob84 who has a similar insider knowledge along with a similarly stunning MY08 hatch, look at their contributions on here and you'll see what I mean!

Your first step should be to add to this thread what you want to mod and then see what feedback you get.

Oh and we all like to see pictures

Andrew

Generally Newage is classed as from the Bugeye to the Hawkeye, then it was just known as the Hatch afterwards (not really sure what you would call the new saloon tbh).

Thanks for replies so far.
Ok so it is a saloon and thought I had uploaded a pic to my garage/profile but here it is

I have the document saying it had the 320 upgrade at point of sale but Am basically wondering what mods are worthwhile once the warranty runs out next month

Djheps, I assume you've picked up the potential issues with the 2.5 and ringland failure.

Key is to fill up with the right fuel, in your case having the 320 upgrade that'll be 97 octane fuel or higher (Shell Nitro or Tesco Momentum, the BP stuff gets mixed reviews).

Keep a very close eye on the oil level, do check it weekly, remembering to follow the instructions in the manual for the position and side of the dip stick to read. It's all down to the way the stick enters the sump

Don't red line it all the time, but with the 320 its got enough power without the need for that.

I'll make a sweeping statement now, but most of the MY11 owners on here have only done minor modding, there are a few owners with forged internals, but thats quite an expensive exercise whether done by choice or necessity.

As for other mods, you could upgrade the suspension to stiffen it up a bit, change the springs, upgrade the brakes, replace the exhaust with something a little more acoustic, go for a 340 remap which includes an exhaust... it all depends on how deep you pockets are and what you want to spend or achieve.

Oh and you could add a spoiler to your boot

Wow...
Ok I have picked up there seems to be some 2.5 failings
I am checking oil weekly and don't get to redline that often as I run out of road!
Seems there are also problems with the 340 remap so may avoid that but an exhaust is definitely on the cards as not enough burble.
As for the spoiler I quite like it without one but maybe the small lip style boot spoiler.
I've already ordered the lower and scoop mesh as I'm astonished it's not on there as standard to prevent multiple damage issues.
I see there are multiple map options but does anyone know of a good place in the south east area?
And thanks for the awesome advice so far

Ps
Is there anyway to check for potential ringland failure to press for warranty fix?
If it was that common I'd have hoped Subaru would have recalled or something

Signs include:
Heavy oil usage
Rough idle and hesitancy under acceleration, but these can be totally unrelated.

If you are experiencing the heavy oil usage then press for a compression test and cylinder leakage test as this can help identify if there is a problem. Also excessive knock errors recorded in the ECU logs can be a sign. Cylinder 4 is the most common area of failure.

All that said, I had a suspected ringland 12 months ago, dealer panicked when I reported hesitancy and rough idle and they could see a lot of knock errors in the log, 2 weeks later got it back with no problem found and it's still running like a gem. To be honest I read the engine failure thread before I bought mine and it didn't put me off. I just don't think about what might happen, I feed and water it correctly and enjoy driving it and don't abuse it.

Yup feeding and watering is up on my priority list.
Only on vpower.
I think the h&s exhaust is first on the list but I'm gonna try get along to a few meets or shows to check out some noise first
Thanks for all the helpful comments

This will give you some idea of the sequence of models, although the high performance "Gen3" cars lost the Impreza name everywhere but North America.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Impreza

The Gen 4 WRX/WRX STi appeared in NA and Oz earlier this year followed by Europe and the Rest of the World but not Japan.

The JDM WRX STi model plus the WRX S4 will be on sale from this coming Monday................

Yes have just been reading your thread don and looks well tidy chap nice job.
My shopping list has grown considerably and will have to put the wife on basic rations lol.
The auto fold mirror option is a need as even my old brera had those!
I'm liking the lips and I love the strut brace with matching battery clamp
