Default classic service manual torque figures WTF!

so im rebuilding my classic wrx engine.
Friday night I snapped a cam cap bolt - turns out the torque should be 10nm not 20 as per the manual.
tonight ive stripped the bolt for the cam belt pulley in the water pump
said 78nm.

warning to others! don't follow the torques in the manual!

wont be using any more figures from that manual!
managed to get a new pump £20 delivered and 4 bolts from Subaru have cost me £8
I only hope the conrod cap torque of 43-46 is correct.

Which manual are you using ?

If they are the nut and stud type rod's,then the torque is correct if it's a Nm figure you have quoted

Version1~2 STi +WRX cam cap torque is 10Nm for the M6 shouldered bolts.
Late Version 3 onwards changed to M8 shouldered bolts and are 20Nm.
Seal carrier caps with M6 bolts are all 10Nm across all versions.

The trick, as with most things car related is not to swing on it like a monkey till it breaks.

Watch out for the cam cover bolts too as you'll berak those if you tighten them to the suggested torque figures.
