STI Oil weight, What is correct temp? Oil cooler?
Hi,
I live in Spain and I bought a 98 impreza STI (Japanese model) from the UK a bit ago mapped to 330bhp, just getting a few things on her sorted and I wanted to know several things.
1. what is the recommended oil weight but remember I am in South Spain the outside temperature here through the day is mainly mid 30s to high 40s in August.
I am going to get the millers oil with the nano tech, however I have done some reading and seen that if a Scooby was in Aus that would run 10/60w oil.
Is this correct? I dont know about this sort of thing so open to advice here.
2. I have Lamco gauges fitted to the car and the oil temp runs around 80c to 90c which is less than half way on my Gauge especially when I am giving it some.
Most of the time it sits around 70c to 80c. Is this a good temperature? Or is it running too hot?
3. If it is running too hot I would like to invest in a oil cooler? Does anyone have any recommendations?
That's all for now. Fitted some nice aero catch bonnet pins as the alloy bonnet was fairly flapping.

I'd use 15w 50 as it's more stable when hot. Your oil temp looks good though, similar to mine in UK. Mine goes over 100 when I drive really hard though. Oil cooler is good idea on track though.

Mobile one 10w-50 is quite easy to obtain over there...have a look in Carrefour etc.
50weight is thicker for the warm weather, but its still a 10w so will still be good if you get those sub zero winter nights. (it can get down to -10degrees where our place is during winter - Alicante region )

motul competition 300v 15w50 is one of the best for warm regions.
In 35c outside when i hammer it, it goes to 105 to 110c. But I fitted an oil cooler, since then anything i do it won't go over 90/95, unless i sit in a jam car is a blob btw

70-80 isn't that great once up to normal operating temps. 80-90 when up to temp would be preferential to ensure contaminants are being burnt off in the oil.
