I wouldn't normally entertain cheap trans fluid, but I want to know if replacing the fluid is the answer to a strange noise issue, so would rather buy this first and then treat it as a flush if it does work.

They do a semi synth and a fully synth. Any preference?

Can I use the same GL5 compatible fluid in both gearbox and diff?

Euro Car Parts are pushing brand this quite hard (along with Petronas)...its made by someone. Who it is, I don't know - ECP seem to be rather coy about who makes their oils.

Anyhoo doubt the oil will fix the noise...usually thats an indicator of wear or damage, all an oil could possibly do is mask it.

While I think you are probably right, I am going to try it to be sure. I'm going to be looking at a gearbox replacement knowing my luck

OK, I've located the dipstick and the oil level looks fine, but what's more, the oil is light and golden so I guess changing it would be pointless as it would be dark and murky if a change was needed?

No, the transmission oil is not contaminated by combustion by-products like engine oil, so should not discolour. If the trans. oil gets murky it could be a sign of something going wrong.

Another place to look is the magnet on the drain plug...fine metal sludge = wear and tear (normal). chunks of metal bigger tham 1mm = problem

For the rear diff....A long 1/2" breaker bar (longer the better!)

I'm guessing it's a standard fill plug on top, drain plug on bottom, use a long rubber tube and fill until it comes out the top job?
