Default Specialist Insurance.

Hey, I've been saving for a scooby for a while now and was in a position of nearly buying one not long ago but my plans changed after my insurance company tried to screw me over. Basically I had received an insurance quote of £960 for this sti and after spending a lot of time organizing with the dealer I was just about to make the commitment, unfortunately the insurance quote had expired as they only last a day so i refreshed it and it jumped to £2300, this immediately stopped any progress with getting a scooby as I refuse to pay that much more money with absolutely no changes to the original quote, its been about 3 months and I have been checking a couple times a week and the quotes have actually risen in that time to £2400.
I have been recommended by many people to try specialist insurance but many of the companies have strict criteria you have to meet regarding age and experience.
I currently drive a 1.4 fiesta so have no documented proof of driving a "sports" car. I have however been advertising my car for swaps and have a potential swap for an rx8 in the pipeline, would getting this and driving it for a while enable me to qualify for the specialist insurance later on or would the fact that I'm 21 still prevent me from being able to receive a fair quote for an impreza?

I don't think any of the specialist insurers on here would be able to quote you at 21

The £900 was likely a mis-quote, hence they have pulled the rate. The £2400 is about right.

The only real option at 21 on a Subaru is Admiral

An RX8 is hardly a performance car, and it isnt similar to an impreza so probably wouldnt count as experience.

Moley works in specialist insurance, so he is the man who knows.

I completely agree, I got my STi at 24 and that was with alot of hassle and messing around and only because I have driven lots of other high performance cars and highly modified cars. It was just under 1k to insure then with all my mods declared etc and I had 7yrs ncb

Thats ****. I'm going to wait until I can get one insured for £1500 at the very most as its money I'll never see again, any more than that is just a waste considering I only drive around 4000 miles a year.

Aberdeen should be cheaper than most city's I would have thought. I am sure you will have but I will ask anyway, you have tried ALL the comparison sites? When I was younger I went with direct line(not on comparison sites)and was able to get a turbo when no one else would insure me. They mite not be the one for you but keep trying and if you use a comparison site you can just keep editing the cars details. Get a good list of age and spec and maybe one will just hit the sweet spot with a insurer. NO STI through being 21 and hoping to get a high performance car is already pushing your luck.

Hi mate, think the price is about right with you being 21. When I was your age I had an audi s3 the 225bhp one, and I have got to say it was a fantastic car! the insurance for me then was at around the 1500 mark its worth a look at one of them if I was you, they shift pretty well and can be picked up these day's for only a couple of thousand okay they are getting on now and will have high millage also the Quattro system they got is pretty impressive.
I had me 1st scoob when I was 23 insurance cost me 1500 for my 1st year on a standard prodrive bug sti was with admiral then now with moley wrx on hear with my type20

You'll be lucky to get specialist insurance mate, have u thought about a Uk spec classic?? I'm 21 and had a modded classic turbo with all mods declared just over 300bhp and got insurance for £950 and that's with my driving ban declared! worth a thought??

@Creditz - Yeah I have thought about a classic but I don't think the insurance drops enough to justify it. @gregwill -I actually had someone wanting to swap an A3 quattro sport for my fiesta but it turned out to be a bit dodgy so I left it, was only going to cost me around £600 to insure with all the mods taking it to 225bhp declared.
I'm sure the original quotes of sub £1000 were not mis-quotes as I had about 7 of them for different subarus all circa 1k. Its just in the last 3 months that they have rocketed for some unknown reason. I do think I'll be waiting until later this year when I turn 22 though, then I should have 5 years ncb which has to work in my favor.

I went through all that. I ended up getting my wide track sti when I was 20 with admiral I had to talk to the underwriters and because I had "fast car experience" they let me have it 5 months before my 21st birthday as usually they do not insure people under 21 on this car. And my renewal quote came through this month at £1064 so very happy with that and that's with 5 years no claims. So I am hoping that next year I may be able to go with a specialist company as I have had my scooby for a few years without incident that may persuade them to insure me.

Lukey: it's all down to waiting, I'm afraid.

My youngest has a Megane Sport R26. He is currently 24, has 6 years ncd and pays £800 AFTER ncd is n off

My Scoob is insured as a classic car, 3000 miles a year, TWO A4 TYPED PAGES of mods, and I pay £269 after ncd is taken off.
